Mrs Shimmetry has gone to see them tonight actually, with Blancmange supporting (who did a fair version of 'The Day Before You Came' which fits the bill as well.)
lots of nice melancholy songs on Small Blacks's latest album, New Chain. Also, 'Hopelessly Wasted' by Shrag, it has a lovely simple keyboard line in it, to lovely simple heartbreaking effect. Maybe one of the saddest songs i've ever heard...
or loads of their other stuff but definitely that one.
not sure if it's the right style you are after but
Sébastien Tellier - La Ritournelle
in fact the whole of Saturdays=Youth
'he's Simple, He's Dumb, he's the pilot' by Grandaddy
Depeche Mode- Shake the Disease
Can't believe no one has said Tears for Fears 'Mad World'
