Siouxsie Sioux. (I win!)
I'm aware I may be alone on this.
hand-wringing about 'starting a thread about women singers being inherently sexist' or something equally bananas (is starting a thread about the best song of the 90s decadist?) so I'm off before the over-earnest brigade gets in and sets up camp in this thread.
I don't really care, but it's nowhere near crazy enough tot be dismissed offhand.
I'm liking this ThirstyDog character.
I'm so predictable.
I used to like Jemina Pearl from Be Your Own Pet too.
so she counts.
..but I think she's damn cool. I'll vote for her!
and Lætitia Sadier of Sterolab, for the voice. Oh her voice! It makes me want to ride a cloud into the dreams of my children.
... although if I was my Dad it'd probably be Janis Joplin, Grace Slick or Nico. All are fantastic though.
Karen O is a strong contender mind - in fact there are loads aren't there? You see I love Talulah Gosh too, so Amelia Fletcher maybe. But then Courtney Love in her day, when I saw Hole on the Live Through This tour - I don't think I've ever seen anything like that, her raw energy was extreme.
Kim Gordan is of course cool, then there's Kim Deal ffs! So, yeh, loads
In a manner of speaking

8. Chan Marshall
9. Kim Deal
10. Kristin Hersh
Not even close.
I get goosebumps each time she sings. Mainly cos she's also singing about being a sex-fetishist, but also other, not so sexy reasons, which for some reason I cannot disclose right now.
And get's my vote.
without all the bizarre sex-goosebumps stuff.
