Think she's earned herself the right to have her own thread on DiS.
Just started with Crazy in love.
Shit is on.
At least one costume change
Perhaps a medley of Destiny's Child songs
Jay Z appearance? Maybe not.
EPIC performace of Girls (Run The World)
The feeling that this isn't just another show for her, but that this is something of an event (a feeling I haven't got from either Coldplay or U2)
Most importantly.....All The Single Ladies
We've had one Jay-Z featuring song but minus the Jay-Z
No Destiny's Child yet
No Girls (Run The World)
Single Ladies happened
But I think we're about to get a costume change.
And it was pretty fucking awesome. If I do say so myself.
So far so good.
I looked away for a second, where did he go?
More to the point, what was he doing there?
he just got his purve on for a while then left..
During the post-game interview.
look like a joke in the space of one song, basically
but so far i'm a bit underwhelmed. I'm not sure it translates to working at Glastonbury.
Don't want to point the obvious, but he didn't do anything
just a hunch
In luxembourg or summit tonight.
But I suddenly really want to. Anyone that did see it, how does it compare?
Or, read a piece entirely composed by putting her name into Twitter Search AND SOMEBODY GETTING PAID FOR IT: http://www.metro.co.uk/music/867526-janelle-monae-wins-fans-on-twitter-after-glastonbury-gig
Thanks for the link though. I'll check out her show after this.
but Janelle Monae was somehow more theatrical and less Vegas at the same time. I enjoyed her more.
...I've really fucked up this posting lark here, haven't I?
....mainstage headline set of the weekend...without doubt
she going to do Simply The Best?
(actually, I really want to hear her do that)
This isn't happening.
I'm not hearing Kings Of Leon right now.
...you're hearing Beyonce
as you were
It's a miracle.
She's Lost Control for the encore!
Meant to ^this Jordan's one. edauadsgfv
Even their Christmas album would be better than this slow stuff. DOESN'T IT FEEL LIKE CHRISTMAS?!
I mean, it literally came out on Friday, while most of the people who are seeing her now were at Glastonbury.
And it's not like she needs to promote it here.
1/ She's Beyonce, so if she has something new out, there's a good chance you'll know about it.
2/ It's always a bit of a buzzkill when a headliner goes for the new stuff, because it feels more like shameless promotion than playing something everyone will enjoy (even if the latter is what's intended).
3/ It's not like she doesn't already have enough hits to make an awesome setlist that she has to resort to playing new stuff. I'd even prefer some Destiny's Child to new stuff. Especially new ballads.
But, y'know, it's her prerogative or whatever. And it's not like I'm there or anything. And there's still time for her to bring it round. But yeah, a little underwhelmed right now. I mean, what the fuck were The Mamas all about, isn't she still wearing the same outfit? So it clearly wasn't a costume change.
I would have thought the point of having Beyonce headline was that she has enough stuff of her own? Why is she singing bad songs badly? It's all a bit embarrassing isn't it? For a gospel singer it's pretty soulless. Lot of lights on but noone home.
That intro to Irreplaceable was stellar.
Seems to be a bunch of young (single) ladies making 'whatever' gestures like a Mean Girls audition.
In summation, pretty cringeworthy.
until someone spoiled it and set me straight.
I much prefer the idea of her singing "Alf Garnett"
the Beyonce thigh workout video would be the biggest selling DVD of all time.
This is great fun.
It is I'm telling you.
Zane Lowe interviewing Beyonce. Plug in, everyone.
of the end of terminator 2
But she won me round.
Laverne having none of it. Hyperbole Ho!
"It was excellent entertaiment"
Can't you ever bring yourself to say a bad word about anyone Zanem when it's OBVIOUS you don't like them???
Remember that he works for the BBC and when on air his opinion needs to one of the masses
Two minutes when you're told you have to praise what's just happened and your co-host is refusing to say anything properly positive. Some speculation that she was knowingly taking the piss out of Zane's style if he wasn't going to supply it.
ugh. shut up laverne.
but Janelle Monae was much better. I hope she headlines one day.
she doesn't have that many good songs though does she?
maybe 5 or 6.
wayne rooney was my favourite bit
The only thing wrong with Beyonce is that most of her songs are rubbish. Crazy in Love included. That is one fucking awful annoying song and always has been.
so it was fine.
And several hours for another gloopy piano ballad.
STOP BRINGING US ALL DOWN. IT WAS FINE.
of the bit after the first two songs - one of which she could have held back for an encore. It wasn't bad overall just slightly underwhelming for me. And medleys are never good, Grease Megamix excepted.
WIping the memory of that covers riddled crap I just watched
iplayer by tomorrow though, right?
Unlike Hyperbole Lauren
To be fair, I think he missed most of it cos he was QOTSA
IS FILTHY my god
but feel so right?
note to self - iplayer this.
I've never really checked them out before. I DEFINATLY am now. That was prob the best music I've seen this weekend from Glastonbury. That was just dirty, filthy.
Now there's Plan B on. THANKS BBC.
Now THIS is the beauty of festivals, seeing an act you've never paid much mind to Blow. You. Away. Dig in to that discography friend, I'd start from the oldest forwards.
Btw, they are on freeview red button after Hurts.
And yeah, is this Beyonce interview happening or what?
Because I really don't like music you can mosh too. I like music to dance to. But this has groove, this has soul. This is fucking just well, filthy.
I definatly will check them out. I just ordered Rated R & Songs for the Deaf.
I hope not. Well, tits or GTFO.
Josh Homme (lead singer) has always refuted the claim that his band makes Metal. I'd say they're in some ways like a full band version of White Stripes - essentially blues but with a rougher edge to it. Not afraid to go hard, but not afraid to go smooth either. And this setlist is pretty much their best of, I forgot that it was chosen by fans. This is A Game QOTSA right here.
about Metallica, and (i'm paraphrasing) how there's just no room for girls in their music. It's all men with bears punching each other in a male bonding ritual. And I HATE that side of music, and people. Which has always put me off metal and hard rock in general(yeah I know i'm generalising/stereotyping etc).
But you're so right (obviously, you seem like a fan) about QOTSA. They have soul, and the blues eeeks out of them like a mutha.
I LOVE finding new music (music that's new to me*). it's just such a satisfying, magical feeling, and reminds me why I love music in general.
I agree that, to an extent, some Metal music is just aggressive music for meatheads to get angry to. Henry Rollins (one-time singer in Black Flag, who can kind of fit into this description) readily admits that the Hardcore music he once felt a part of quickly became mindless angry music, and then eventually lead to stuff like Limp Bizkit.
It's easy to write off a band like QOTSA without quite hearing them for the above reasons, but once you crack that shell and hear what they are really about, you can find a lot to love there. That said, I'm really more of a casual fan. But I'll be paying more attention to their older stuff after tonight's performance. Right at the tail end of Glasto, they have been a most pleasant surprise.
Here's to many more pleasant surprises. God, that sounds cheesy.
And btw, I prefer men with bears.
Plan B is lookin rough!
my sister once washed the lead singer of Pendulum's facial hair.
I guess it's time to call it one. Same time next year, yeah?
Actually, probably for the best. Maybe someone new will have risen up to headline status by then, instead of the same old same olds.
They've already booked the 2013 headliners
It's Tricky over 3 notes on the pyramid.
I watched most of it. It was okay but what was with the covers and the medleys.
If I'd been there I'd have watched QOTSA anyway since they have more great songs.
but from what really stood out from the first 45 mins-ish i did see was what an amazingly accomplished performer she is. She (and her band) utterly detroyed any other act witrh regards putting on a show, which i guess you'd expect given the kind of music she plays, but still, it was mighty impressive.
I think she's ace. I also can't wait for her next collaboration with Tricky.
and I would have been disappointed going by that show. The weird thing is Lauren Lavern banging on about soul - that was one of the most soulless performances you could see. Slick, BIG, and her voice is excellent, but watching someone as sensible and christian as Beyonce roll around on the floor just rings forced and false.
this version of girls is better than the original 'cause it has less pon de floor in it.
(given that she directly reproduces Tofo Tofo's original dance in her stage show, and presumably world tour) they should surely be paid as much as whoever made up the dance for Single Ladies, no? bet they won't be tho. that's a shame.)
other that it was fun but yeh could've been better songs etc.
and she was sitting on the floor in a way that looked like she was overcome by constipation and sat down to keep the poo in.
Was pretty good but not the earth shattering performance i'd been led to believe. The set was basically faultless up until If I Were A Boy but then the dodgy covers started (though I really liked the Etta James and Prince ones) and playing 40 seconds of all the big Destiny's Child hits totally killed the momentum (plus Beyonce >>> Destiny's Child).
She missed alot of her big bangers that would've killed it on that stage (Get Me Bodied, Ring the Alarm, Deja Vu, Uprade U, Diva, Videophone...) but at least she didn't over indulge with too many of the trite ballads.
Basically her outfit, singing and moves as well as the band, backing singers and dancers were all fantastic, I think it was just poor song choice that let the performance down. I spent most of it wondering how much that hair do set her back and how on earth she could dance in heels like that without destroying her feet.
