Heavier stuff isn't massively well represented, although Skeletor promotions seem to be doing pretty well out of putting on the same six bands every month (actually that's not really true).
Adventures Close to Home put on David Thomas Broughton recently, which gives a reasonable idea of the music they do. They've got the best artwork of any local promoters (I think, anyway). They put on similar stuff to Pindrop, but I don't think Pindrop are putting on many gigs these days..
There are a few other promoters doing variously good jobs of things. Pure Concentrated Evil at the cellar put on some good gigs on Thursdays that range from indie-rock to heavy-rock.
So yeah, those.
Best small gig I've been to in years.
We are about to start working on putting on some more shows soon - please email
james [at] pindrop [dot] com
If you want to get in touch...
In the last year or so we've put on Patti Smith, Silver Mt Zion, CocoRosie, Ugly Duckling, Hauschka, Acid Mothers Temple, A Hawk And A Hacksaw, Pet Moon, Chad Valley, Trophy Wife, Braindead Collective and many more.
Maybe we should rebrand as Pretty Good Promotions.
so Pretty Good is optimistic.
I've just sent you a message on here. Your email address just bounced back.
Skeletor - mental.
Adventures Close to Home - seamed to off stopped.
Pure Concentrated Evil - I can't seem to find. Perhaps, they've stopped as well?
Pindrop - emailed the guy but email bounces back. I can't seem to find another contact for them.
Vacuous Pop - On hiatus.
We are looking for a promoter to put on David Tattersall (The Wave Pictures) and Howard Hughes (Coming Soon), so more of a folk rock gig.
Are there no DIY promoters left in Oxford??
There are tons! Here are a few:
Adventures close to home are still going…
Coo Coo Club: http://www.myspace.com/thecoocooclub
For Pure Concentrated Evil (still going) you need to get in touch with Jimmy at the Cellar.
Also for shows at the Wheatsheaf generally get in touch with Joal there
Also back and to the left does some stuff: http://www.myspace.com/backandtotheleft1
There are loads of one-off promoters too but that’s not so helpful
we're still going (we've barely got started!) - withered hand, men diamler, mary hampton, rozi plain etc in the next month
send us an email re: david tatersall on email@example.com
pindrop curate fantastic nights!
Is this list still current?
Who's promoting in OX these days?
and a few others. nightshift.oxfordmusic.net is pretty much solely frequented by people putting on small nights.
and thanks for the linky link.
