Nice try, late-90s NME.
things that came and went:
we are all just wasted protoplasm, huh?
*goes into sad existentialist wallowing*
re shangaan electro
i should probably expand otherwise people will just think i'm being a dick (maybe they'll think that anyway, idk)
anyway, it's a bit western-centric to imagine an indigious south african style of music doesn't exist anymore just because it isn't getting written about by pitchfork or dis or whatever, no?
because to be fair genres don't stop existing but they just don't get covered. It was one of the most short lived hyped genres I think I have ever come across. The internet is odd when it comes to music hype.
As far as I recall
>There was one compilation last year.
>Lots of people thought it was really good.
>Nothing has been released since, not necessarily surprisingly, considering the obscurity of the source and the fact it's only been 10 months.
And... that's the whole story. I don't think it really equates to a mad internet HYPE-FEST that then crashed and burnt and which we'll never hear of again. Like someone said on here a couple of weeks ago, a lot of people seem to be happily blurring the definitions of 'hype' and 'praise'.
pretty good stuff.
All too willing to tell us it was massive at the time, now where is it?
jungle is dnb, and plenty of that is still made.
shit, you got me.
as in there's like what, probably literally 3 bands still doing it..is nu metal
Seriously, Chino. I enjoy listening to some of the Deftones records, but Diamond Eyes is a 2010 release with that awful nu-metal sound. Just fucking drop it like a dead language, amigo.
I don't think I want to.
wasnt that great. Although that oooOOOOooooOOOO e.p. was alright.
if i were in a band I'd love to start and end a genre, though I suspect a lot of these really qualify only as subgenres more than anything.
How I wish it was still 2003.
