They released a pretty successful album more than 2 years ago, but if this is just a list of successful acts then no way are they the eighth most successful act around (which is where they are in the list).
What 'power' do The Prodigy have in 2011? No-one can convince me they are a significant influence on music in 2011. Who seriously is waiting in the next Prodigy album to show them the way ahead?
Or the last Susan Boyle record?
Or the last Mumford and Sons record?
It can't just be about sales otherwise it's completely pointless.
It's very sad to say, but I suspect Bumford and Sons will have more influence over the sort of stuff we hear on the radio over the next few years than most artists on the list (and certainly more than The Prodigy)

That Liam Howlett's alleged power and influence is not based on sales figures.
What is it based on then?
No matter how much it has "declined", NME still has a reasonable amount of influence over british indie music in 2011. Certainly more so than Jamie XX anyway.

it does say "the people exercising the greatest influence over the UK's pop and rock listening habits right now", which vindicates them a bit for some of the seemingly odd choices. I'm guessing they just named it Music Power 100 to rope in the readers.
I can't take any list about 'power' that has MySpace in it at all seriously. Undermines the whole thing. And also find it weird how there's loads more radio than internet related stuff - and the internet things they do have seem to be pretty much people who run massive sites and the biggest digital download store from one of the biggest companies in the world. Seems to confuse 'reach' with 'power' and influence.
Surely 'The Fans' were the major omission in all of this?

But Myspace still does have a lot of active users and hits, regardless if the most of the world has moved on elsewhere. I don't know exact figures, but I'm sure the music players on there get more hits than the average music site in the UK.
Radio also is integral to really breaking bands, in that way I'd argue they are more powerful than the internet in crossing them over in to 'real' record sales (by that I mean the millions, rather than the respectable thousands that most bands we love sell). There are massive internet bands - Animal Collective for example - who we all know and love, they sell out big venues, but the average man on the street probably won't know them, but would know Kesha, Adele, Bruno Mars etc.
Also, the massive sites you're referring to - iTunes etc - do have reach, power and influence, so I'm not sure what your point is regarding them? Obviously Beatport isn't as powerful as iTunes, as much we'd all like it to be.
Anyway, it's just a list on a slow music news day. It's not worth taking as seriously as I just have :(
should be higher than Chris Moyles, who plays about 10 tracks a day? No-one listens to Chris Moyles for new music.
This list isn't about who are the main players in new, ground-breaking or credible music.
It simply pointing out who has the main influence on what people listen to and how they listen to it.
From this perspective, I think the list isn't far wrong.
but the bigger the reach, the bigger the audience. you have to remember that Zuck doesn't do anything to turn people onto music or movies or anything. everything is user-generated.
