Aiden Moffat & Bill Wells

cameron78 [Edit] [Delete] 18 replies 12:57, 23 May '11

Anyone else got this yet? the lovely LP version arrived at the weekend - 3 slabs of vinyl with loads of extra..

Its a great album.. The best tracks so far: The copper Top, Ballad of the Bastard, the sadness in Your Life will slowly fade.

Its probably going to get me abuse but I think Mr Moffat's post Arab strap work is better..

  • Don't really know any of Aidan's previous work

But listened to this on Spotify and it sounds ace. Tempted to get the LP box.

What's the bonus stuff like? Can't find a track listing anywhere, just the press release generic statement about having extra tracks/demos/remixes.

    • Its got a live EP with about 6 tracks on it (good recording for a change)

Some tracks that did not make the cut, a few longer mixes and demo's and outakes. Really good value including the album its about 2 and half hours of music, the early take of Cooper Bell is very good. I think its about 18 extra track (two of which are 10 min plus)

  • I wanted the box set but couldn't really justify it, what with having no record player

I love the album lots though. Track 2 is immense as is the one that 'does a National'.

  • I haven't heard this yet

but I will be buying as soon as I find it for a better price. I've liked Moffat's solo stuff but it hasn't touched Malcolm Middleton's stuff.

  • Malcolm Middleton's solo stuff is, in my eyes, better

but yes, this album is fucking dreamy. I love it.

    justanothersheeldz | 23 May '11, 14:37 | X
    • see I agreed with that..

especially for Malcolm's first two albums, but he has been kind of middling recently, while Aiden has done some brilliant stuff.

  • been loving it. Copper Top is especially gut-affectingly gorgeous.

  • I'm gonna buy it next week when I get paid...

The thing about Aidan Moffat solo is that he's an effortlessly great lyricist. You feel he could go on writing great lyrics all his life, in fact I'd say he's gotten better with age. So as long as he's got decent musicians around him he'll make at very least "decent" albums.

I'd listen to the album now on spotify, but it'll just distract me from revision.

  • I love Arab Strap but never really got into anything he's done since then

I like the sound of this though

  • Aidan Moffat

could be singing about pissing in my living room and I would not care. He's got the kind of voice I can listen to for ages.
    Very good album.

    Lililololaure | 23 Jun '11, 16:25 | X
    • That is the sort of thing he might sing about though isn't it

  • brilliant album

always feel a bit bad for Bill Wells, his name is always getting demoted to second place when it's actually his first on the LP.

    pretty_vacant | 27 Jun '11, 12:09 | X
    • Conversely, it took me ages to find it on my iPod

Apple had imported it without Aidan Moffat on it at all?

    roastthemonaspit | 30 Jun '11, 12:06 | X
    • True, but as venues go I do like Cargo's sound and intimacy

I will probably buy tickets for this after lunch...

This record continues to get better with every listen. Top 3 of 2011 for sure now, maybe nearing number 1 or 2...
