What's your favourite album / ep / single cover art?
I like Architecture in Helsinki's 'Places like this'
on a forum which doesn't have image posting...
off the top of my head...
Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump
Radiohead - Kid A
Eels - Electro-Shock Blues
but my personal fave is Tindersticks - Can Our Love..
it's not their best album, but the composition of the photo is just delightful...
These are both awesome! <3 tindersticks and grandaddy so much
It represents the music so well; blurred, dark, and ominous.
It also represents the music pretty well!
Thom Yorke - The Eraser:
Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean:
Meursault - All Creatures Will Make Merry:
The Redneck Manifesto - Friendship:
(also, ignore the dodgy tache)
Jape - Ritual:
Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche
And a nice EP cover, again from M&E design:
The Redneck Manifesto - Seven Stabs
i'm pretty much a sucker for anything with cities on, but the colours on this, especially the reds at the top, are so vivid, you can just sink into them.
whatever, i'm male (robots! lasers!)
not sure there's ever been a record cover that so perfectly expresses the sounds within
ohgod new york <3
i could look at a sky that blue all day
Yoshimi + all associated releases had great art direction. I think this is my favourite, but I can't really say why. Something about the unknown blah blah.
need to stop looking through my iTunes...
it's a bit like a zoomed out version: http://shockmountain.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/picture-13.png
i removed the 'Shoreline' and used it as artwork on iTunes for the bonus EP that came with the album :)
I just used this when I stumbled upon it in Google images:
But usually I'm just a sucker for overuse of colour:
Zun Zun Egui - Bal la Pousierre http://tinyurl.com/5rn6j3n
Cinematique - Life in an Infinite Loop http://tinyurl.com/62p3u62
Miracle Fortress - Five Roses http://tinyurl.com/689lclt
Gonna look up the album now.
I didn't pay anything and feel slightly bad.
Boredoms- Vision Creation Newsun
Dunno why... Something about it just pleases me.
See This Through and Leave by The Cooper Temple Clause
I like Johnny Foreigner covers. Particularly stuff around the first album. With Birmingham stuff. And dem ghostzz. I like how the album has got half a dozen or so different covers in it.
And the hand drawn skyline on Arcs Across The City
and I'm sorry to say this, but i have come to the decision that i really hate the cover of Waited Up.
I dislike most of their artwork, but i quite like this
I looked for a very long time, and there was literally nothing on it that wasn't amazing...
they're so amaze: http://gooddoctorzeus.blogspot.com/2008/04/pen-pixel-retrospect.html
Iron Maiden - Killers. Adds to the effect that the victim is Thatcher. Incredible sleeve.
we might as well accept that most metal album covers are pretty awesome.
The Walkmen - You & Me
Love the colour and scene in particular, the cropping is also very intriguing.
Crystal Stilts - 'Shake The Shackles' 7''
Looks like the final scene from a bad 1950s horror movie. It's funny but not used purely for comedy's sake. Also echoes the 50's pop vibe of the b-side 'Magnetic Moon'.
The covers of both Women's albums. Self-titled:
and Public Strain:
Both seem to work on a theme of humans subjected to external pressures, a recurring theme in the music. The dominant colours in each of the covers is also surprisingly rich (surprising because they're varying shades of grey). Quite a few others things to say about them, but I've probably said enough.
Is just so perfect. And so unlike what people expect from that band - much like the whole album really...
...but this is the greatest: http://flavorwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/603px-Big_Bear_Doin_Thangs_Album_Cover.jpg
http://madshoes.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/bodymeta.jpg Left-field jazz albums from the 70's have some incredible artwork.
The art made me want to listen, listening made me want to buy and a limited pre-order was done (its also a good good album) but the art is sublime.
Hi, just required you to know I he added your site to my Google bookmarks due to your layout. But seriously, I believe your internet site has 1 in the freshest theme I??ve came across. It extremely helps make reading your blog significantly easier.
and kill the moonlight
This however is lush http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8lTkiov1UDM/TZgBHVFwFpI/AAAAAAAAAZI/TFCJ4PPvj9c/s1600/cover.jpg
Lemon Jelly. Quite soothing i find.
I LOVE this album art, its really cool and is an actual shop in London http://bit.ly/TVBjane
Been obsessing over this lately...
Never really been into Pink Floyd but this is my favourite album cover of all time. For the record: the worst album cover of all time is that Hard Fi one for their second album. Horrible.
Afrofuturism covers of a lot of 70's Jazz. Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, George Duke.
This is probably my favourite
Heaven Up Here by Echo and The Bunnymen
Pornography by The Cure
One of these;
have great album art...particularly Domkirke and Monoliths & Dimensions.
Turn on the Bright Lights - Interpol Nowhere - Ride
That's one of my more recent favourites as well as Wolf Parade's Expo 86
The good thing about Eye and Brian Chippendale artwork is that you spot something new every time you look at it.
John Morton did a WFMU t-shirt design which I got and it looks suspiciously like he did it in MS Paint.
the whole package looks amazing for that one.
Smoking Popes - Born to Quit
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads
and Boatman's Call
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
The Slits - Cut (slightly NSFW)
Roxy Music - Country Life (again, slightly NSFW)
Guns N' Roses - the original cover for Appetite for Destructionhttp://sleevage.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/appetitefordestruction.jpg
Keeps shifting between an image of masculinity (huge phallus) and an image of castration (pair of scissors). Also looks a bit like the Warner Brothers logo. Ace stuff.
its jane doe isnt it
Or Potishead Third:http://assets-s3.rollingstone.com/assets/images/album_review/8341e09f5f1ea3d08963a0592fb01d6065ecc6ca.jpg
Also love Arab Strap Philophobia, Underworld Dubnobass..., Bats Sleep of reason and Broadcast Noise made by people.
everything in the neutral milk hotel box set
kind of reminds me of the artwork in melon collie and the infinite sadness, kind of victorian and surreal
it's one of my favorites because it actually goes with the music genre, dreampop-ish and psychedelic..
