Noel Fielding gets strangled!
...but I hate this, a lot. I love Kate Bush, I love the Sensual World album. But I hate this so much.
Because it makes no sense. Conceptually, the song doesn't have to be trapped in 1989, but slapping on some speech synthesis that was out of date in the '70s... I don't get it. We've all heard Fitter, Happier... that's what a Mac sounded like out of the box in the '90s (or check out The Speak It Mountains from Gorillaz' latest effort for a contemporary example). There's absolutely nothing to be gained by trying to retrofit this track with ugly-ass Auto-Tune effects that have been cliche for over a decade. Except that it utterly distracts from the gorgeous Trio Bulgarka, who still sound orders of magnitude more alien and exquisite than any computer box.
Again, I love the original track, but this is a huge misfire IMHO. Massively disappointed.
...altho I should also point out that I did enjoy Cracker making a return.
It's the computer singing those words in the lyrics. Hence, it's somewhat clever to actually, in practice, make a computer sing those words.
Whether or not it's good is another point of matter... the original is one of my favourite Kate tunes and it's the definitive version, but I quite like this reinterpretation as well. My main complaint with it is actually the added lengthy instrumental section near the end that doesn't really do anything.
