Sunset Rubdown are the best Spencer Krug aren't they
probably helps that it's a Rubdown and Wolf Parade song
but I've never been able to get into either of the other two. Weird, huh.
The opening 5 tracks blow my mind.
Easily one of my favourite bands... I played Nightingale / December Song every day for a year or so after Dragonslayer came out. I <3 Krug.
just checked and it missed out on DiS', which seems a massive oversight there.
i retract my comment, partially. it certainly got great reviews when it came out, and i remember it generated loads of chatter on here, certainly more than the last one did when that came out.
it charted in their readers poll rather than their official list
Didn't get in P4K's end of year. Both RSL and Dragonslayer are high in my favourites of the decade.
...on your leopard and mending of the gown are immense.
I remember some annoying guy kept shouting for sunset rubdown to play it at the garage, krug was like 'sorry thats a different band' as annoying as the guy was I was kind of on his side, krug could have played it, its not like swan lake tour as far as im aware so why never play the best song youve written
i think SR is a very indulgent conceptual thing for him, and even though all fires is basically just another one of his songs, it doesn't really fit into the SR catalogue. that + the way he is in interviews, i really wasn't expecting him to bust out all fires the way stephen malkmus will ditch the jicks and play we dance, it's just not his style.
i saw them in bristol a fair while back and there was a very small turnout, maybe like 12 people? and for the first and last time in my life i got the balls together to request a song - a day in the graveyard pt. 2 and he said "i'm sorry i really don't remember the words for that one" i didn't really believe him, i just don't think he likes requests, which is fair enough
sorry that's a really boring story, i'm a big krug fan though
he does have a LOT of songs.
so it balances out somewhat.
but don't really stick with me that much. Whereas Shut Up and Dragonslayer are two of my all time faves. So basically, yeah you're right.
Though judging by the man's marimba skills, a rumoured Moonface LP could really through a spanner in the works.
the man can do no wrong (except the 2nd and 3rd wolf parade albums obviously)
could this be the first Krug barren year....ever?
inclined to agree that ATQM is his best album but random spirit lover isn't far behind. wolf parade definitely seem done though...mt zoomer was a lot of afterthoughts and the last album was pretty bad, apart from one of dan's songs, can't remember the name. i would much rather krug devote his time to SR or whatever, would quite like to see a low key acoustic album from him, but obviously not quite as boring as "low key acoustic" implies.
anyway, hope he's actually working on something, haven't heard anything for ages
I tried, but i can only remember it was in the high twenties. Didn't realise there were so many for ages
Sunset Rubdown are possibly my favourite band. One day I was walking across the meadows, and For The Pier came on my iPod, and I was just... woah. And me and my friend used to get drunk a lot and put on Sunset Rubdown and jump around and talk about everything in life ever. I guess some of the songs make me a bit sad too, because things aren't really like that anymore - they're a band that reminds me a different kind of time in my life.
But yeah, basically... Spencer Krug's best.
YOU'RE THE ONE WHO'S RIDING AROUND ON A LEOPARD
YOU'RE THE ONE WHO'S THROWING DEAD BIRDS IN THE AIR
Sunset Rudown > Swan Lake > Wolf Parade > Moonface
I'll be in the grave with no name
