captcha is that thing where you have to type in the numbers on the screen which stops spam bots

"hopefully the captcha won't affect any existing users but the spam is getting rather out of hand, so we have to do something.
the "delete all" also has an issue with the cache of pages not clearing and that should be remedied when the fix goes up too."

Think new site is going up in June... Until then I guess spambots are here to stay. So many beautiful threads ruined.

- trying my best to keep atop of it all. will have to pay out another big chunk of change for some developer time this week as I've wasted about 7hours this weekend deleting spam and barely made a dent in it.
  if everyone could ignore it and not directly reply to their posts, it'll stop the thread smash a 'geddon.
  most annoying thing is that so much of the spam IS deleted, it's just that someone has to reply to a thread for the dumbass cache to clear.

      longer answer...
      the main problem is that the site is a decade old and it isn't particularly straight forward. so much has been upgraded and tacked on, that everything needs a degree of explanation.
      plus there's a heap of stuff that is very unique to DiS (like the need for the cache on the social board to update every 2-3seconds, whereas much web pages only update every 5mins or, in some cases, every 24hrs.

I agree. Strongly. I enjoy writing my music blog and the links to DiS make the effort I put in feel very rewarded when like minded folk appreciate my posts, etc. The spam bots make me feel like i'm wasting my time, efforts, etc. If they could be booted somehow it'd be very appreciated. I know where to but Oakley Sunglasses if I feel the need ( I don't!)...
