can be due to vocal delivery/style, lyrics, or a combination of both.
he is very funny on stage. And I swear he was winking when he sang the funniest notes/worst lyrics. He knows what he's doing.
I always hear screamo stuff with awesome drums and cool guitars and think "This is great!" then some cunt starts screaming and I'm just "Oh, it's like that is it. Shame."
singing like they're auditioning for the Club Singer round on Shooting Stars.
esp Hetfield. Also notice how Dave Mustaine just does that quiet singing into the mic most of the time and barely opens his mouth.
Will link to this really hair metal outtake here when I can. Just hair metal vocals/lyrics without any music sounds incredibl(y stupid)e!
Bruthah will kill bruthah! Blood across the laaand! Killing for relidge-awn, something I don't understand!
odd because i like a lot of similar stuff, (and i like odd vocal deliveries, don't mind breath behind the vocals, and i like accentuated vocals like much of the stuff on Morr Mousic) but as much as i've tried to enjoy it and there's the odd song i dont mind, it grates on me, and i've been unable to get past it, which i think is sadly my loss. and on the other side of the coin lots of vocals that are just too clean, polished, over produced and insincere.
although I can see where you're coming from: I do sort of dislike Morrissey a little bit, maybe, on his own (partly as solo artist but more his general public persona), BUT as far as Morrissey In The Smiths, Morrissey The Frontman Of The Smiths is concerned, he's perfect. It fits. I wouldn't want it any other way.
not me though!
The Doors I mean
I actually really enjoyed the guitar on that album but Dominic Masters made them seem and like sound like completely and utter c***s
so much so that I hate Wild Beasts
and feels so integral to it not sure you can seperate the singing from it :/
i still love them mind
wish they had just done an instrumental album though, all those bits are wonderful
Shut the fuck up, Efrim!
Disclaimer: I love him, I just wish he'd be a bit less wobbley sometimes. There's some truely beautiful moments, but sometimes just too OTT
I admire everything about the way they approach being in a band, the rest of the band make a pleasant enough racket but then the singer opens his mouth and I find myself wanting to hurt them all. It goes right through me.
I accept, round here, I'm in a minority and, like I said, I know they're a force for good, but I will never get past his voice.
That line about a 'final livejournal entry' or whatever. >:(
Makes me cringe
But, anyway, I heard a Wild Beasts song and was like 'man, this singing is great, it's a shame about the music!' The guy who goes all falsetto on yo' ass reminds me of that woman what sang with Crass.
But that's pretty standard, isn't it? Everyone always says Deerhoof in these thread. Just not in this particular one, apparently.
she has a wonderful voice. Fits the oddness of the band perefectlly. There's nothing normal about deerhoof
Far too 'Brandon Boyd' for a guy from Manchester.
I would've probably liked Johnny Foreigner as well, if it weren't for that girl's awful voice.
Just to clarify, I do like Oceansize...The middle/end of Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs, end of Unfamiliar and Charm Offensive for instance, make my balls swell. His vocal just has such an unnatural American affected sound to it sometimes though, and it really gets to me.
Johnny Foreigner can GTF though...
mike sounds like he's from leeds to me. which is where he's from...!
the singer is the weak link
also, bloc party - tight band - bad vocals/lyrics
i'd love to hear colin meloy from the decemberists front the smashing pumpkins. i like the occasional americal nasal whine, but corgan is too much for me.
Perfect for each other. I'd expect people to hate both vocals and music if anything
musically they are great but, I think she adds a much needed playfulness to their sound.
Can't imagine "we tigers" with any other vocals tbf
Every time I hear their music I can't help but wish they were an instrumental band.
Keep the Singer, get rid of the music
Sometimes would prefer the vocals replaced by synth/guitar lines
And to a lesser extent...Death Cab For Cutie. But mainly Bright Eyes.
Can't abide that whine though. Also reckon I might like the Beatles, I'm not sure.
I know she makes intereting music but her voice and mannerism turns me right off ...
Well to be honest not that wholy fond of them anyway, but is it just me or is Win Butler awful at singing? (when the woman whose name I forget sings it's almost always an improvement)
or Conor Oberst, or Dave Longstreth, or Mr.Yorke. Really surprised that it took so long for his name to come up, as the only reason I can identify NOT to listen to Radiohead would be his voice. (even though I love his voice, and more devoted listeners would know why)
I wouldn't go that route because I appreciate the "unique" delivery these folks provide.
The truth is, I'm in a constant guilt process over metal. Black, death, pretty much any sub-genre where they think it's a desirable trait to growl into the mic. You might say, "Well, [insert random British singer and/or Billy Corgan here] whines and that's not a desirable trait either."
From a purely technical standpoint, as an open-minded music fan, I agree. And, I wish I could listen to this wonderfully constructed, progressive music more often. I want to. I just can't relate to the concept of growling lyrics as a form of expression. It's simply not how I would express my feelings, ever.
mental i know
why did Kim have to take up smoking
Take away all the hype and they are just a bunch of half-arsed college students with a frontwoman who can't hold a note for toffee.
I really like their entire aesthetic and think I would REALLY like them, but can barely sit through a a minute of Jeff Mangum's drony whine.
okkervil river. great songwriter, great instrumentation etc. but his voice is the bridge between band i like and band i love
Nothing special, but nothing to put you off
Can't stand the whining
