So which of you brave souls have trawled Bandcamp...
...and actually found decent new music, in spite of how clunky browsing is? I have a couple of recommendations, would be keen to hear more
Pacific Theater - http://pacifictheater.bandcamp.com/album/warm-light
Moody, Brooklyn-based New-Rave inspired Rock. Inventive songwriting, reminiscent of The National
Sun Glitters - http://sunglitters.bandcamp.com/
Sunny bedroom-pop, but with much more imagination than standard chillwave bandwaggoners. Almost Ambient Pop.
Cinématique - http://cinematique.bandcamp.com/
Slow-burning post rock/ambient. Very "cinematic", album has great rhythmic flow

I find it more of a great place to be linked to
than as a great place to go trawling by yourself. But then I don't think I ever trawled myspace in hunt for something either.
I click around it occasionally
Last thing I found out of the blue and liked was this album called Slothpop by a band called Slothpop
http://slothpop.bandcamp.com/album/slothpop
Basically folkyish indie pop with female vocals. Not a million miles from MSTU or something like that. Haven't paid $10 for the download, but I *might* stump up a few quid for a cd if there was one.
Actually, it's not really all that much like MSTU, I've basically just said that cos it's female vocals.
Massively sexist, obvs. It's much more like Bat for Lashes.
this is really nice
good work
I did type a longer reply but it didn't post
but basically here's my favourite find:
http://silentfarmrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/wild-runner
inventive and visceral indie rock for fans of early modest mouse
a few, not that i can remember all
and usually the cuts i find are patchy in places:
Soft Powers
http://softpowers.bandcamp.com/album/its-like-a-dream-single
http://softpowers.bandcamp.com/album/bad-pop
there's a shoegazey dream-pop thing going on there but it has more muscle to it, and they have a psychdelic edge
Colfax - Tape
http://colfax.bandcamp.com/
Boards of Canada-ish at times.
Tracks 2 and 5 are brilliant
Halls - Solace
http://hallsmusic.net/album/solace-single
ambient electronic, very nice
Colfax
yes.
Some other stuff I seem to have on my radar (although these may have been linked to on here rather than me discovering them, I can't remember)
http://gizehrecords.bandcamp.com/album/with-our-heads-in-the-clouds-and-our-hearts-in-the-fields
The artist is Sleepingdog, which it turns out is Adam Wiltzie from Stars of the Lid + a female vocalist from some band I've never heard of. The album comes out this month, I think. Only a couple of songs up here, but it's nice.
http://watermelontree.bandcamp.com/album/passport-photos
Watermelon Tree have a few albums up, think they're all free/pay-as-much-as-you-want, pleasant ambient stuff.
http://newanimal.bandcamp.com/
Another free album - they've even got a mediafire link up if bandcamp runs out of downloads or you can't be bothered to put an email address in. Came out this year, don't really know what it sounds like - not that it defies categorisation or anything like that, I just can't think. Someone who reads pitchfork and listens to more indie than I do can probably pin it down better than me. Maybe Panda Bear or something.
http://btpamband.bandcamp.com/album/what-is-the-colour-of-warmth
Beyond This Point Are Monsters = pretty formulaic EITS-with-violins post-rock, but its free and it doesn't outstay its welcome if you want that kinda thing. Pretty old.
Actually, that New Animal shout was definitely another DiSer's find:

Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if fallover (now the_silent_crash) had a fair few other things to post - he made me a couple of mixcds of such awesomeness that I now listen to everything he says.
glad you liked the cd -dan- thanks for yours there's some lovely stuff on there, much appreciated

the majority of posts in this thread are
visually speaking, almost indistinguishable from the spam posts...
http://cheapnikeairmaxgucci.bandcamp.com
http://letsfaceliftbar.bandcamp.com
you can get all the tubelord b sides and stuff for free and the new crash of rhinos album which is amazing!
fuck the spamming!!!
I know they're established but I've had lots of good stuff from Johnny Foreigner's site, been happy to pay for it. And this lot have put up a rather wonderful new single I've been enjoying this week:
http://paintingsofships.bandcamp.com/
Oh and, er JAG/shitegorilla, except all of it is free (noiserock-shoegaze):
http://amyblue.bandcamp.com/
You're my hero
For posting that :)

Slow Night
Some great Ladbradford-y SOTLish loveliness going on here:
http://slownight.bandcamp.com/
Sorry to resurrect a somewhat old thread
but I found this one today:
Monograph
http://monograph.bandcamp.com/
From Berkeley, some pretty honest post-rock kind of channeled through Modest Mouse. It hit me rather hard.
these are good
http://anemeraldcity.bandcamp.com/ (post-rock, Kiwi Mogwai)
http://distancefromview.bandcamp.com/album/distance-from-view

Don't know if i'd have the courage to trawl the mofu, tho? Jeesh

Iron Chic - Not Like This
Great fun.
Health Visitor EP
http://originalfireplace.bandcamp.com/album/health-visitor-ep
OH I AM A SWEET GORILLA
Maybe they're already quite well known. But a friend recomended them to me..
http://giraffesgiraffes.bandcamp.com/
I think they're pretty fantastic.
Agree with someone above
that bandcamp's strength is in being linked too.
Its appeal for me as someone with a page, is that it is so clean and clutter free from all the suggestions and celebrities that have ravaged myspace.
And would it be sinful to do a little shameless self-plug?
http://jairien.bandcamp.com/
P.S. Does anyone know how to make a decent page header for bandcamp?
