matt berningers voice pwns, plus baby we'll be fine is one of my favourite songs ever
Would have to be settled by You & Me v Boxer
Alligator, Boxer, and High Violet are a great albums, whereas The Walkmen only have the one. It's an easy one.
to say the Walkmen only have the one song...
if they didn't have that one song, they'd probably have a better chance of people getting into their whole catalogue. There's nothing on Lisbon that's remotely like The Rat, and it's all the better for it.
wack it to The National all you want, but The Walkmen are top fucking shelf. You probably think Abba only have one song too. Disgusting.
but from what I've heard, the National.
Live and on record
But Alligator is one of my favourite albums ever and the National have so much great stuff
The National are still fantastic, though.
so who cares?
well...probably that some people like the National more than the walkmen, and some the other way round. I don't understand how some people can argue with such vitriol about The Walkmen. They're a great band, and aren't particularly divisive or offensive. You & Me will probably have more longevity for me than any of the National albums, but the national are probably a more consistent, and hence slightly better band.
If you don't count Pussy Cats, every Walkmen album is worth listening to. Don't bring up A Hundred Miles Off, because it's at least as good as Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers, and the self titled National was kind of shit. The Walkmen are one of the most consistent bands around.
is my favourite Walkmen album by a country mile ... I never liked Bows + Arrows (and never understood why everyone loves The Rat - just sounds like a 2nd-rate Strokes rip off) and never got into the first album (although I only gave it a couple of listens), but You And Me is great and Lisbon is pretty decent
re: The National, I haven't heard their early stuff, but I really liked Alligator and Boxer was ok but I thought High Violet was awful and the singer appears to be doing a Stipe and disappearing up his own arse ... oh and The Walkmen are much better live ... so The Walkmen, for me
is better than anything the Strokes have ever done.
Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone is my favourite Walkmen record.
Do you always scream "j'accuse" whenever someone hates on your favorite band? Don't take it personally.
They seem to have more versatility to their music. The national are a great band though
2 great albums - You and Me, Bows & Arrows
Though its not really a fair analysis as I've never been able to listen to a whole National album. I just find them dull, the singer is too monotone and the songs I've heard all sound similar. I just don't get them.
The Walkmen are pretty good, and The Rat should probably be renamed The Albatross, but The National are just in a completely different league scoring bicycle kicks up in the clouds.
but have, as usual, been compelled to chuck in my two'penneth.
Really like The National, think they're great. But prefer The Walkmen. Having seen both a few times, The Walkmen are more dynamic live, and on record have a bit more variety. And 138th Street is basically my favourite song ever. But as I said I really like both and its pointless to compare!
They have more edge.
Whatever that means.
