Does anyone have any tips as regards the above? Would be very much appreciated.
all depends on what record you're recording...
i'd do it to tape if you can
In my experience, with recording studios as much of it is finding someone you're on the same wavelength as- definitely visit the studio and have a look around/listen to stuff they've done beforehand.
just use samples. a million times easier, and normally sounds better unless you've got a brilliant producer. but if you're self producing drums are a fucking nightmare and take bloody ages to get right
after being told by the producer that it'd sound better than the kit. Had a lot of problems with the triggers too- in retrospect it would have been much easier to mic up the kit.
i recently had an absolute nightmare trying to edit all of the drum hits when we recorded, and afterwards i couldnt mix them very well. But thats probably just cos our drummer isnt very good, and im a shit producer lol.
didn't mean to 'this' this. i guess sometimes samples cut it, but it ain't that difficult to mic up the kit and drummers prefer real kits, and they sound better etc etc (imho)
