1) how have I not heard this sooner? Slightly unhinged Japanese indie rock - they have a song called 'Pixie Du' which should give you a clue as to their influences.
10) love this album. Melodic indiemo perfect for Rainer Maria fans. I believe they're looking to tour the UK later in the year.
11b) recently signed to Sub Pop. Maybe a little too Broadcast-esque for comfort sometimes, but the Remember Pepper EP is a pleasant listen.
14b) top, top album. Every bit as good as The Little Explorer.

The Jill Scott binge is a reflection of the lovely weather.
The Weeknd has been ruined for me a bit by numerous articles describing as 'thinking man's/indie man's R & B' ect
It is a good album. Not as good as Jill Scott or Erykah though. Summertime neo-soul.
I quite like the Weeknd album, but it's not amazing or anything.
I'd probably much rather just listen to Drake & The-Dream or whatever else its ripping on. It just feels a bit cold and calculated y'know?
Plus the 'thinking man's' bullshit annoys me. Like the production is anywhere as avant as a Dream/Tricky beat.
2
did you listen to 'Give Me Your Love' 17 times? I did.
Nah. I listened to the whole album.
Got into her when Erykah Badu covered You Can't Turn Me Away. Its another perfect sunshine record.

Lots of bands w/John Dwyer
There is a new 'deluxe' 5lp LRD box out. I dunno how deluxe a poorly recorded bootleg of a bootleg can get but ho hum. Are any of these Phoenix Records releases legit at all? I suppose it doesn't matter for LRD cos they don't have any real releases anyway but it's a shame if Flower Travellin Band/Speed Glue & Shinki etc are all being ripped off.
Kyuss Lives was good fun! I went suspecting John Garcia might ruin it but he was great! He had a weird glint in his eye which suggested he knew his lyrics were sometimes hilariously bad. The guitar didn't quite sound as fuzzy as on the albums but apart from that it was top quality.
Yeah, it was a former version of me
Just decided to mix things up a bit.
I wish I'd gone to Kyuss Lives... need to get myself some tickets for Queensof the Stone Age at Roundhouse.
You got that LRD boxset!!? The volcanic tongue mailout makes it sound like the best thing ever. If I fund £50 floating around on my run now I will add the extra £12.99 from my own funds and purchase it. How does that sound?
that version of you still has a link to his myspace page
myspace. SO LONG AGO
maybe some of the Kyuss people will turn up at QOTSA, you never know
I didn't buy that thing, no. That's like an entire couple of month's worth of albums for me. I think this is the only band I like where i'm quite happy just having the mp3s. VT makes everything sound amazing! The Mainliner they have on lp at the moment is actually amazing though. And Mainliner will actually see some money from it!
LRD are quite good for epic long runs.
Can't do long runs for the moment boss
Gave myself shin splints :( Working my way slowly and occasionally painfully back up to 8-9milers...
I like the new (forthcoming) Enablers record for runs. I always liked Enablers for runs, especially when you just come to the top of a hill and he goes 'WHERRRRRE DID SHE GOOOOO!?"
:( shin splints is awfuls
i got this book from someone for xmas and despite the new ageyness it's actually really good and deals with the right running posture etc.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chirunning-Revolutionary-Approach-Effortless-Injury-Free/dp/1847392784/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302463523&sr=8-1
Aye rhythm is a bit overrated for running imho. The problem I used to have w/Enablers was that on the first album one song totally blasts in from nowhere and that shocked me up to the point where I almost fell over. But I know when the loud bit is coming now. I didn't know there was a new Enablers album though, sweet
Is that Kid Congo Powers?
The guitarist from the Gun Club? If so, saw him play in a bookstore in Berlin a couple of weeks ago. He was doing a spoken word set with accompanying guitarist. Really good.
Yes!
the gig is advertised with the band but i'm quite up for hearing some talking too. He probs gets a lifetime pass for being in the Cramps and the Gun Club but the album is good even if you ignore teh past
hey mug_x_3
did you download that Dwyer comp/mix I made? The Zeigenbock Kopf story is pretty gross/funny, but the story about playing in front of the firemen is amazing. I don't think stuff like that can happen in the UK.
I did, very good stuff!
Mad to think he is also an improv jazz drummer. Is there a load of volunteer firemen in the US? No way would it happen here. And almost having your bits amputated due to infection is extremely rock and roll. In a way.
awesome.
Yeah, seems like he's quite a drummer for hire - or was for a while at least. He plays drums for most of the bands he's been...or half of them. I really like his stuff with The Drums - one set pretty clean, the other with a few effects, double kit face off. Should have done more with that.
link pls!

7b. Some serious shout-along shit. I would have been all over this when I was fourteen, but it's great now too. "OH, YOU WON'T MAKE IT OUT THERE ALONE," etc. Leave it to Wes Eisold to make New Romantic music that still causes a compulsive urge to headbang.

1. the heavy music thread reminded me that i haven't listened to Kylesa in AT LEAST like 2 weeks and that needed rectifying. haven't listened to their newest one as much as i probably should have, because i always feel the need to go back and listen to Scapegoat
2. OSTIA, ARGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *sax freakout*
3b. started listening to Our Love Will Destroy The World and it reminded me that i like Birchville Cat Motel way better
Bonus fact: my most listened to song this week is Regulate by Warren G followed by Steal My Sunshine by LEN
the neighbour of the beast
itunes recognised my ipod! no scrobbles off it yet though, haven't plugged it back in. Good story.

1 they sound like outer space, like every atom in your bloodstream being torn apart by a quasar (or something). Bit less good when they start rolling out the krautrock grooves (not something i've ever felt the need to say before). I suppose it brings you back to earth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj46gNfXNAw
3 the new Grails record doesn't quite sit right with me. If i was a music hack i'd probably say it was their most "accomplished" album, but some of the dynamic seems to have been lost. Still a great record by any other standard
6 the new record has some jams on. It also has some non jams, the squeally falsetto he sometimes does is very irritating, and Sitek still doesn't know how to produce them. Still, jams
7a can't be doing with the 80s jazz production, especially the guitar tones. I'm pretty sure this stuff never sounded good
mainly been listening to Donny Hathaway this week
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUh70zp0LE&feature=related
I think it's superb
Seriously feels like what they've been trying to get to after all these years. I thought that Burning Off the Impurities was a bit too pure 70s eastern tinged pysch, whereas Doomsdayer's Holiday occasionally felt like a series of aborted musical experiments. This one is really varied, really moving, really excellent music. Standout record of the year for me, thus far.
