Not personally,of course. I mean his music. Where to start? Anyone?
Its an all time favourite for me, I'd start with that. If you're a total newcomer then listen to Chicago - I bought the album of the back of hearing this song once about 5 years ago - now I'm a devoted fan
Seven Swans for a different side to his music, and because it's beautiful.
my favourite sufjan song:
from illinois. another amazing sufjan song from that album, the opener
live acoustic sufjan loveliness:
banjo version of 'for the widows', a 'sufjan classic'
carrting on in that vein, sufjan on la blogotheque
one of the mor accessib le of his new electronic direction
bringing it round full circle to an illinois track
wrap your ears around all of those and you should know whether you're a fan or not.
is one of my favourite things ever.
perhaps witht the exclusion of Enjoy Your Rabbit and thats just because it's a completely different style to the rest of his stuff (post rock, avante garde no vocal)
'A sun Came' has 'Demetrius' and 'You are the Rake'
'Michigan' has 'Romulus' & 'Vito's Ordination song' & 'Wolverine' (on the Extras)
Seven Swans (my personal favourite, dont shoot me) has 'that dress looks nice on you', 'sister', and 'a good man is hard to find'
coft illinoise - has 'chicago' and 'john wayne gacey jr'
so good stuff on all, 'adz' included
Illinois is where it all clicked for me, that's probably in my top 5 favourite albums of all time.
But Michigan has Romulus and Flint (for the unemployed and underpaid) which are two of my favourite Sufjan songs. Heartbreaking.
Also Age of Adz is truly amazzzzzzing. A fantastic album, just a little more difficult to listen to compared to most of the others.
for the adz.
but it's not really the best introduction.
All Delighted People, so I guess I wouldn't know really to be fair.
I really strongly didn't like Illinois when it came out actually, only starting to warm to it now.
