Is "Night Bus" the new witch house?
Is it really a real thing? Seems so: http://drownedinsoundcloud.com/post/3828918107/sunday-friendly-mix-britticisms-night-bus-a
I can certainly see the logic of it. I have my own night bus records (although they can more often be Liars buzz sawing my ears off).

eh, yeh...
so work blocked that as it was 'pornography'. wt actual f?
I shall investimagate and return post haste...
Soundcloud is blocked at work. For being pornographic.
How very queer.
it's actually tumblr that gets blocked by some filters - i can't access it on my blackberry due to "parental lock" of some sort.
lol
dunno we don't have a bus service at night where I live lol but there is a spooky vid to that Fis-T track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RduuiRlN7QY
I remember when I first heard 'Trouble' by Shampoo and I was all 'What the hell is a night bus?'
Now I've been to a city and actually know what a night bus is, and the horrifying trauma of accidentally being in Penge at 4am or having a burger thrown at my head on the 42 to Didsbury, the idea of it representing any genre seems even more mental.
:D
Is 'night-bus' really a thing?
hehe
Penge
hehe
I used to live in Didsbury
I FEEL YOUR PAIN
Ah, the 42 to Didsbury.
Such fond memories, mainly of people urinating next to us. That was a nightmare bus.
i get the night bus to my witch house
Can't listen to this right now
but I'm often a big fan of the kind of sound that's described here, and Julio Bashmore is rad as hell, so I'm gonna go ahead and give my seal of approval.
No
It is a fictitious genre/meme created by a message board. It has been pretty great to see people jump on the bandwagon of something that started as joke. see also morning train.
How is a 'fictitious' genre different to a 'real' one?
A genre is defined by the audience.
The audience in this case is fucking plastered and has fallen asleep on the way to Romford.
I'm starting a genre called First Great Western. It's music: but on a train! The perfect soundtrack to seeing two men in suits rucking at Didcot at 7.30am on a Tuesday.
sweet
now you just need to build a small following of tumblr users, and then you'll well on the well to becoming the new king of public transport electronica.
that's right: well on the well
This is the sort of newspeak that all the First Great Western hepcat musicians can get behind.
Well on the well.
http://bit.ly/e3eeIf
how about night train?
http://www.factmag.com/2011/03/15/shackleton-creates-soundtrack-for-devon-train-journeys/
Axl Rose invented that
The link to download the mix is down
but I quite like what I've heard from the embedded players. I'm not sure there's anything here that doesn't already fit into existing micro-genres though.
its all just...
post-dubstep, man I wish there was a better word haha. I don't think Night Bus exists, its a myth. Its a kind of interesting way to chat about some music rather than a genre I think. What would you listen to on a night bus? etc...
agreed. it's a feeling
not a genre. a state of mind. just like chillwave.
Does anybody have another link??
i put nearly all the tracks up as soundcloud as i presumed the download might not last too long.
if you prefer you can open a tab and stream them all via hype machine http://hypem.com/#!/list/14251
Oh... ok!
So is it a collection of tracks rather than a continuous mix?
what a silly name
i like most of the things this apparently is though, but I would have lumped in with general 'post-dubstep' and techno sounds.
personally I enjoy things like Burial and worriedaboutsatan on night buses. just really introspective and moody and atmospheric, which I guess the things mentioned there by sean are too. lovely.
Is "taxi home" the new Goblin flat?
Bus Stop is the new Crab-Step
IS NIGHT BUS KILLING TAXIS?
I tend to listen to grime or grindcore on the night bus, guess this is going to turn out some boring dubstep or whatevz
I think the genre should be called
What You Put On Your MP3 Player When You Want To Look Out Of A Window Into The Rain And Be All Melodramatic Like The Poignant Bit In A Teen Drama Or That Bit In Friends When Rachel Is All Sad And Then Ross Makes U2 Come On The Radio For Her.

thanks i was just about to FUCKING KICK OFF
downloading this it sounds like something that might be up my alley if i had one
witch alley
Been kicking round as a genre for a while, longer than witch house
the XX are 'night-bus'.
http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/2009/08/the-xx-the-xx/
5th paragraph down.
Probably dates back at least to the Burial song.
just listened to this
i take it all back. IM GETTING OFF THE BUS HURR HURR
I'll start my reply in the subject field
Except not really. Music isn't seious business and my favourite genre is shoegaze. Fucking shoegaze. How did that ever become an actual recognised term?
Night bus is perfectly legit 'thing' in any case.
I'm listening to this just now
and it's very good. Not sure that it's an entirely new genre, but if people writing about music want to call it 'night bus' or whatever then so be it.
Sounds like the sort of thing I'd rather have sex to after a night out, so I'll probably end up wanking myself off to it on the way home on Saturday morning.
THIS IS NIGHT BUS LITERALLY FOR ME JUST NOW
http://soundcloud.com/mutantbassrecords/the-mcmash-clan-dream-tripper
wihc house existed tho
niht bus is a dis gimiick
Possibly it is another silly thing
...but unlike Witch House I actually like Night Bus...if it is a thing
Its really not a thing
outside of a few geeky hipster blogs, the music in that mix is already in a pretty damn established scene/genre just go here: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4275900 lol
This name makes perfect sense...
Whenever I listen to dance music I always want to be sat down, staring out a window looking mopey...
pint-gaze?
this has already moved on
apparently they're playing Jamie Woon before airplanes take off now? http://twitter.com/#!/adrian_read/status/50511940216307712
I prefer the spiritual successor of this sound, Replacement Night Bus
I'm on the Night Train....
Bottoms up! I'm on the night train, fill my cup!
Bus? Nah, you're alright.
Who invented the name 'Night Bus'?
Sounds like a hipster runoff/vice attempt to parody witch house, which itself was pretty much a parody anyway, as far as i can tell...
Anyway, the new Burial record's out on Monday, so all the Night Bus heads can have a collective cream
worst name for a genre ever.
it's a shame because it's quite nice, a bit like an ambient UK Garage.
Is Dusk Disco the new Night Bus?
Is Dark Country the new Dusk Disco?
Is Bookmark Ambience the new Dark Country?
Is Hostelpunk the new Bookmark Ambience?
Is my washing machine the new hostelpunk?
I should be a music journalist. I'll just write a simple program to throw together a music related noun and a verb, make up shit based one a band or two, hype something to fuck, lay back in my crisp infested bed set and wait for the internet to catch up.
Only joking mind. It won't be a simple program at all.
I wouldn't describe the person who made up 'night bus' as a music journalist.
But I catch your drift ;)
i quite like Dusk Disco...although it makes me think of Kings of Connivence
night bus is a feeling
it's not genre. yall faggots iz alot of talk
Nah, it's the new slutwave.
Is this still a thing?
Nah
Evil Sean's moved onto sigh-fi now. Do keep up.
Sigh-fi?
AMAZING.
fi fo fi fum
Gotta say I like that mix on the soundcloud.
Still listen to this playlist a lot
That Julio Bashmore first track is fucking brilliant
