Ryan Adams
New recordings as well...
apparently brand new stuff as well rather than him digging through his back catalogue. Photos of the recording session recently went up on his facebook which has been dormant for a few months before that so it looks like he's back properly. I AM EXCITED!
oh fuck off Ryan
first UK tour in nearly two years and you're doing it while I'm not here?
BOO FUCKING URNS
Niiiiiice
Just saw that he's got an EP of unreleased Cardinals stuff out on Record Store Day too.
Not 100% but
I'm fairly sure it's US only for that one. Still, would be nice to have if I can get my mits on it. Double 7" from what I've just been reading :)
Ah dammit
You're right.
Is that Glasgow date on Glastonbury weekend?
'tis indeed.
hmm...
could be a dark horse in the eotr headliner race that i now seem to be entirely obsessed with.
I was thinking that but Ryan doesn't like travelling much these days I don't think
and the dates don't match up and he already headlined '06 so I've dismissed him already. Solo set would be amazing though.
Also, wasn't he a royal pain in the arse at the last EotR?
I don't think they would welcome him back - but they are good guys and he has changed, so who knows.
Excellent news though - Praying for a decent smattering of South West shows (i.e. one in Bristol).....
he
is playing glasgow june 25th

Sweet, confirmed;

Fans:
what are the ESSENTIAL Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown records? (Lists that include rock 'n roll shall not be considered.)
Top tier:
Heartbreaker
Love Is Hell
Cold Roses
Strangers Almanac
Next tier down:
Everything else minus R'n'R
Bottom tier:
Rock N Roll
(I could break this down into more levels for you, but you sound pretty casual, so yeah....)
It's weird, I'm a proper Ryan geek but aint listened to him much in last six months
and then this news got me well excited and for some reason got a massive craving for Rock N Roll so stuck it on and realised that I really really adore some of it. That's all.
oceanRain...
My favourite is Cold Roses as it encompasses both his rocky sound and his country sound and an edited version of it is probably my favourite ever album.
Love Is Hell is essential as is Heartbreaker. Jacksonville City Nights is really beautiful country music, it was recorded live with all the musicians sat in a circle around the mic and has that kinda vibe to it, perfect music for sheltering from a storm.
Gold is his poppier side but still some good stuff there, but probs not essential. To be fair honest record has something great on it.
I would also include both 48hrs and Suicide Handbook (unreleased albums) as essential also, they're both that good.
Heartbreaker - quintessential breakup album. A classic.
Gold - pure pop brilliance. Lightweight, but not a weak track for 17 tracks. Quality.
Love is Hell - wonderful, deep melodic rock. Great songwriting. Moody.
Cold Roses - Country Rock, not noodly or 'difficult' as the lie goes. Worth getting and hammering into a one-album playlist of solid gold. In that form it's my favourite RA album.
Suicide Handbook - perfect. just adams and a guitar, and recorded at the height of his songwriting strength.
I honestly love everything he's done, but can see he's an overwhelming and at times tough artist to 'get'. I honestly think anyone listening to those albums in that order can't have many complaints.
Pneumonia is so much better than Strangers as Whiskeytown goes. one listen will tell you this, and it's an album that reveals itself quickly. Everything great about adams solo career is represented here somehow, if it doesn't move you, you can probably look elsewhere.
I really really like Pneumonia
and it has some amazing moments (Jacksonville Skyline oh lord) but then it also has that rubbish Hawaiian shanty thing on it and it doesn't really feel at all like a 'band' record, I guess because Whiskeytown wasn't a band by that point really.
totally gonna listen to it tomorrow though, haven't given it a spin in AGES.
."Somewhere the night sky hangs like a blanket,
shoot it with my cap gun just to make it
seem like stars..."
</3
rubbish Hawaiian shanty thing
:'( I love Paper Moon!
He's really not.
Cheers though.
^ DJ Reggie lyrics?
I've never been to a gig at the Barbican before
Are they usually standing or seated affairs?
always seated as far as i know
but the acoustics are amongst the best in london.
All seated. Great venue.
Is it a case of waiting for tickets to appear on their website?
So i don't have to get them from seetickets? Annoyingly would much rather go to the Oxford show but am on piggin holiday. Damn you holiday!
From the Barbican Facebook page:
Barbican Centre Tickets will go on sale through the Barbican box office this Friday(18th March). Call the box office at 020 7638 8891 (10am-8pm Mon-Sat, 11am-8pm Sun) or visit http://www.barbican.org.uk/ for online bookings.
Cool, cheers
Much appreciated.
I actually really like Rock and Roll.
I love Rock n Roll
One of his best.
Rock N Roll
was my first Ryan Adams record...and oh lordy, I couldn't even get through half of it. TERRIBLE. Then I got Heartbreaker or Cold Roses, and it sorta even things out...but I was never fussed about really getting it more.
So thanks to the above suggestions, I've gone out and got most of the ones listed above. But Rock n Roll...it's seriously flawed.
I love it
in fact most of the reasons people don't like it - it is massively, deliberately derivative, spat out in a fortnight, are why i love it. It's such an awesome, gobby, fuck you to the record label, and all the bands it is ripping off. Oasis you say? Yeah i can drop a song ten times as good them in a minute. The Smiths? Not. A. Problem. Take that everyone, I'm best.
So much this.^
So many fuckin great balls-out sweaty rock songs, I love it for the same reasons.
So Alive is up there with anything he's done imho.
I can see what you're going for
the unreleased Pinkhearts sessions are pretty good if you want good 'rock' Ryan stuff.
also one of them has this on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joe5kZwna5c
I LOVE all-seated Ryan Adams gigs.
Obv if I could go back in time one of my first stops would be 2004/5 to see him play Love Is Hell / Rock n Roll gigs but they're in the past now.
But yeah. I really really hope nobody ruins this Bridegwater gig with heckles like they did last time.
Pre-sale link for tomorrow...

HERO.
Thanks a lot for this.
Yeah, thanks!
How long will the pre-sale last??? I'm not able to do anything about this until at least 10am...Grrrrrr
Until the pre-sale allocation sells out I guess
No telling how long that'll take though. That^ link I posted is from his official site, so I guess quite a few diehards will know about it.
Two tickets purchased
at a whopping £73.50, jfc.
Oh well, it's Ryan Adams.
OOF!
Two tickets purchased at an-about-expected £52.80. Thanks a load for that pre-sale link Spiritofjazz, dude's my favourite favourite artist. yes, let's hope there aren't any twats there and, if there are, he's in the mood to rise above it.
How did you get them for £20 less?
I have got some too. Almost certainly not going to be able to go, but good to have the choice!
Sorry, £52.80 was Manchester
Row C!
Did you pay that for London?
Well I got into work at 10.30 and still managed to bag two tickets for Oxford (at £57). Row E. Nice.
I may have listen to Ryan Adams for the rest of the day.
Spiritofjazz - Thanks again for the link.
:) No worries
At what point did you find out what seats you'd got? Can't find anything about this in my conformation email and it wasn't specified at any point during the ordering process. But mine are for London, so maybe it's different....
It told me as I was booking
Row F. Delighted. Really hope I can go!
With Oxford
It came up with a seating plan. You couldn't select the seats tho.
2 tickets purchased!
Cannot wait. Seeing a rather shitfaced Ryan play acoustically at the Colston Hall in Bristol some years ago remains one of the best gigs i've ever been too.
That gig was nuts.
I loved it.
This was my favourite gig of all time.
A friend of mine
Who equally calls it best gig ever (he prefers chat to music it seems!) still regularly does in immpression of that posh guy, who shouted out in a really plumby rugby voice - "for fucks sake Ryan, your a talented guy...." before everyone boo'd him out.
Awesomes.
I also liked the bit when he realised, after playing for about two hours, that everyone wanted a fag break so got up and wandered off. I walked out, straight to the bar, bought a drink, walked straight back in - he was already back on noodling about.
Brilliant!
Kind of want some full rock shows from him though....
he was rambling away, as he does, at the Liverpool show in 2006
and some guy with a really thick scouse accent shouted out, "do you even want to be here?".
Ryan heard this, looked a little puzzled for a minute or so, then said, "do I want... a be-eer?"
was amazing
Ha! Amazing!
At the only not amazing RA show I have seen (Birmingham Academy 2006 - I think) someone shouted "play something I know" and he said "listen to something I play". Admittedly, shortly after he stropped off in his little patent leather cuban heels, but i loved it regardless.
Yeah thinking about it, if i had to pick my very favourite gig
it would probably be that one too.
I don't know why.
It was a bit crazy and ridiculous but it just worked for some reason.
Whatever happened to 'Dont get sentimental on me'? At the time i thought it was the best thing he had ever done. Also that bit near the end when he pulled out that electric medley thing ....Cold Roses into I SEE MONSTERS if I remember correctly. A-maz-ing.
London Row C booked
I am fucking stoked.
That is Ryan and Weezer tickets in the same morning. No food for me this week then!
Sunday 19th June date at Barbican now added after Monday 20th Sold out. Tickets still left for this at the moment from their website
Wooh!
Booked! Thanks for the heads up.
thx for the heads up
got row a circle which is a pretty decent result :)

I'd much rather Dublin than London - please be a saturday.....
Found them,
