How much are Brixton gigs normally?
£35 to see one of the biggest indie/rock bands in the world

i mean i could go on, i don't know why you'd think otherwise to be honest.
They've sold about 10 million albums in the US
and around 13 million worldwide. As far as the sort of music they play goes, yeah they've sold a lot and yeah, they're among (if not) the biggest bands of their ilk. It's odd that people would suggest otherwise.

Songs on rock band isn't a measure of anything. Not sure what lastfm plays are meant to indicate without any context (don't use the service myself).
But anyway, while they're undoubtedly more popular than Pulled Apart By Horses, truth is they're hardly U2 or Coldplay or Prince or any properly biggest band in the world.

last.fm indicates how many people listen to a band. yeah, it's mostly used by indie types, but it's also reflective of the real world popularity for the bigger artists (eg coldplay, muse, lady gaga etc in the top played)
you may be right about rock band, i was just throwing it out there because i only ever played it once and they were featured alongside R.E.M, nirvana, pearl jam etc.
they're a lot closer to U2 and coldplay in terms of popularity than pulled apart by horses, seems ridiculous to even mention them in that context.
then you decided to ignore the part where i said how they've sold millions of albums and had chart topping singles spanning two decades.
your perception of their popularity is flawed, and this is coming from someone who doesn't even like them that much.

But U2 and Coldplay *are* some of the biggest rock bands in the world, so if Weezer aren't on par with them then logically Weezer can't be one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
I think you're stretching the definition of `one of the biggest` a little too far here.

you could argue he's being fairly conservative in his definition ...
Glancing through Last.fm (a blunt tool, I'll admit), there don't seem to be very many active indie/rock bands with more unique listeners. If you wanted to nit-pick (and it seems you do), you could argue anyone not on a par with Coldplay, U2 or Radiohead isn't one of the biggest indie/rock bands, but Weezer are a hell of a lot bigger than virtually every other indie/rock band in the world.

I thought they were fucking dreadful at Reading. Shit covers, half-arsed autopilot versions of their own songs, Rivers dicking about on a mini trampoline and playing as little guitar as he could get away with. Nah - i wouldn't pay £35 + fees to see an extended version of that show. It's a shame because their Manchester 2002 gig is still one of the best I've ever been to :/
This. I've never been as disappointed with a show
as I was at Reading. That they played three covers in a 45 minute festival set when they've got plenty of well known/popular material of their own says it all. Rivers so obviously doesn't know what to do with himself when he's not playing guitar and bizarrely even when the band have played their own songs on their own as a fourpiece, they still don't bother. They don't need the gimmicks and they're not better for them.

....you lot reminding me that they did do shit covers at the festivals last year worries me. They were still a normal band when they last toured in 2005, and were great. I was glad i didn't see them at Leeds Festival because i would have been embarrassed.
The covers that they played were very tongue in cheek. Their whole show at Leeds was brillopads
So much fun. I like weezer a lot, always have, but I expected it to be a fairly dull affair, it was really good though.

I was tempted to go
but by the time I thought about it it was already sold out, (Reading day tickets are too expensive these days anyway) and the reast of the bill didn't look very appealing. And there were no London shows.
But =w= at Reading 2002 was similar, one of the best festival shows ever for me too!
I just hope i'll get a ticket on Friday! .. it's been too long!
