best 80s song ever
it's excellent. see also, broken wings - mr mister, and drive - the cars
without hearing the DJ Sammy version in my head. :(
End of the Innocence and New York Minute are also pretty good.
Have to say I like End of the Innocence and Boys of Summer as a real guilty pleasure
but i used to feel that this song "haunted" me. not like "that is a haunting melody" but like "this song is following me around and wishing me harm in a sinister fashion".
so now you know
I can remember it being on the radio when I was about five or six and liking it. Then twenty years later I heard it again and realised its greatness all over again (see also: Shout by Tears For Fears and Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat)
I was listening to this on my way to work this morning and thought I would start a thread saying the exact same thing. Spooky isn't the word.
It is the best though, and I'll tell you why it holds up - it's one of the few songs from that era that somehow managed to restrain itself from going overboard on tacky 80's production so doesn't sound like a joke like just about everything else from that time does.
I'm just a bit freaked out
I think it's one of only 12 songs from the 1980s not to have a sax solo as well.
suddenly last night I listened to it a few times in a row and thought it must count was one of the great achievements of human race. now it's playing in my head.
It's an absolutely wonderful song.
Also, sometimes when I listen to it I think back to the instrumental version of it being used as the bed for those BBC montages they play before the Cup Final showing how the teams got to Wembley. I hear it and I see Keith Houchen. Which also helps.
