i was worried it had come out already
Big fan of Josh's though so biased in that way. Nice to hear some lovely violin from Warren Elliss too.
I managed to get one of the advance copies Rough Trade were selling a few weeks back, and I've been listening to it a lot. It really opens up after 3 or 4 listens.
Looking forward to seeing him in Brighton and the Union Chapel in the coming months.
I just got Union Chapel tickets and will grab the album on Monday.
Am i in for a treat? (albeit a dark one by the sonds of the review)
But though the album has a general air of despair, at the Slaughtered Lamb last week he seemed very happy, was very chatty & told a shitload of bad jokes... So don't worry about having a depressing night...
I can't wait to hear the album.
May 11th can't come soon enough.
It's just phenomenal, absolutely devastating stuff... Gets better & better with every listen.
Also playing the Purcell Room at the South Bank Centre on Friday April 1st :
is it all just guitar? Saw him at ATP a while ago and was expecting a bit more blood and thunder. Not really clicked with it so far.
but yeah don't expect the noisy stuff he was doing at ATP from a few years back. It's more heart-aching love songs than tortured tails of run-ins with the devil.
not really found any connection with it, but I've never really been a lyrics man.
Shame, as I loved Texas Jerusalem Crossroads, guess the interplay between the guitar and the rest of the band held a greater weight to me.
after seeing him do random gigs for years.
7 minutes into the second song and welling up - not heard anything that grabbed, molested, upset and connected with me like this in a long time. Whhoever said it sounded devastating is right. I can see why that DiS review, good though it was, seemed to be continually reaching to say something rather than just saying it. I'm finding it difficult to express myself.
even on first couple of listens. I Wish You Were Her is devastating.
Sweetheart I ain't your christ totally kills me.
