New song and video
...a bit harsh maybe but it's certainly an unexpected change of direction imo...
can someone tell me there's been a massive cock up?
his solo submarine songs sound so good too:
I always look forward to a new Arctic Monkeys album, but that is sub-Beady Eye.
from their official website as well. sorry.
Ok, that's a shit line - but surely the next one will be better...
."I wanna rock and roll...brick by brick".
Hmmm, ok......third time lucky maybe...wait for it....
Fuck off Alex.
but it's the blandest thing they've ever done, save for 'Leave before the lights come on'.
Hopefully it's just a bit of a mid-album dick about, rather than a suggestion of where they're going.
but the lyrics...wtf..?
'The Strokes, Arctic? Monkeys, Beady Eye, Radiohead, The Vaccines, Red Hot Chili Peppers. This year = awesome'
I liked Humbug and all
catchy as hell, its not trying to be anything else.
Including anything interesting.
I've admittedly never been much of an AM fan (though I've liked the odd song here and there) but watching from the sidelines, their growth and evolution has been interesting to follow and I think they've been going along a very intriguing path after the terrible laddie-indie shlock of the debut. Based on this song, it's a bit meh to see them regress into something that could've come from Beady Eye.
It's one song. We have no idea if its the lead single, b-side or a complete cast off.
So to start the suggestion that their creditable career could be over because of one track you dislike is over board.
"terrible laddie-indie" debut is a daft comment whilst we're at it too.
PLEASE be a joke
Link there to previews.
That's fucking shite. Massive disappointed face :-(
OH MY GOD it's dreadful.
You see what you've done by calling Humbug shit? :(
Bring back the Ginger Elvis.
I've never been a fan but I never thought they were awful, and lyrically Alex Turner was quite clever at times.
I think I prefer this to anything off the last album. I think everyone hates it cos of the lyrics.
The strength of the songwriting is the main reason I listen to the band.
the lead single. Just a 'Teaser'. Hopefully somewhat of an interlude track, it's dire. The Submarine EP previews sound brilliant though.
Whatever short-term "legacy" they had has now been repeatedly pissed on with the last two attempts. Now this... This is fucking shit.
bands make on their road to 'maturity' and making steps towards longer lasting credible legacy preserving careers after the big pop smash of the first album and consolidation of a sound with the second.
This song is just really weak though.
i sort of like it but it doesn't sound like Arctic Monkeys (Alex's voice sounds a bit different, don't it?)
and it reminds me of something from the late 90s that i can't quite put my finger on.
attitude is same though: release a silly (lovely) song as lead single and do it by purpose. cant wait to hear rest of the album.
i prefer them doing this instead of ritz part 2.
and probably the reason I got into music, this makes me a bit sad (drippy as it sounds).
ANOTHER Beady Eye thread
I don't like it, no.
I'm assuming Alex wont have dumbed down the lyrics in general on the album, I see no reason why he would. Could fit fairly well into an album... musically it's decent. No longer see it as a definitive sign that this is going to be a bad record. No love for it & I wont be intentionally listening again until the record comes out, but then again (for example) I thought The Suburbs would be shit when I heard Month of May & it turned out pretty damn well.
"Brick by brick.... . . . Brick by brick.."
The video sucks dong too
I agree that sounds more like a B-Side, though...a Supergrass b-side! (which is not such a band thing)
The vocals sound like Alex, but they changed the pitch to make it sound deeper.
Deffo not as bad as Beady Eye. This new song - despite lack of any lyrical genius - doesn't sound as safe and boring as a Beady Eye...it's a bit weirdy innit? Not bad...
It's a bit of navel fluff. Maybe Turner is deliberately making AM shit? I imagine he's got billions of offers for a solo record.
