The Mogwai UK Tour machine
saw them in Bristol last night.
they played one of the best sets I've ever seen them do. It was honestly something close to the dream Mogwai show.
Sound was peeerrrfect (but for bassgasms which overloaded the ears for a brief moment here and there) and they seemed to enjoy playing everything.
shame Stuart had to tell off the cunts NOT SHUTTING UP at the end of Helicon 1 but other than that it certainly secured them as back in business! hoooray!
Set wise I can't remember the exact order but we were spoiled with something along the lines of:
White Noise
Killing all The Flies
Rano Pano
Jim Morrison
I Know You Are But What Am I?
Hasenheide
San Pedro
2 Rights
You're Lionel Richie
Helicon 1
Christmas Steps
--------
Thatcher Death Party
Mogwai Fear Satan
Mexican Grand Prix
first time I've seen them play Christmas steps in probably 5 or 6 years. made my life : )
anyone else had a good a time as I?

How To Be A Werewolf was in there somewhere as well

Can't wait! I'd love to see Christmas Steps again.
Saw them in Belfast last week
Had never seen them before and I've never really been more than a casual listener, but I rather enjoyed it.

Did anybody go to the Bournemouth date the other day?
Can't remember much of the setlist and can't find anything online. Fear Satan was sublime though.
Bristol last night
was in my bottom few Mogwai shows. Setlist was a bit random, not much went together, wasn't keen on the truncated 2 wrongs and didn't like how they opened with amazing visuals, then had none for ages. They played really well, but the chatty crowd was pretty annoying and made it hard to really get into it.
If I wanted to go to a gig where everyone has a massive chat, I'd normally go to a gig in london.
To be fair, there was nobody chatting near me
it just seemed to be a bunch of drunken cunts near the bar, very annoying though and it completely baffles me why it happens.
Yeah the main standing section was quiet
It was just the braying rah-rah-rah's from the bar that was so distracting.
Yeah we were stood on the first balcony just in front
of said drunken group of cun*s. Several people told them to shut up but they didn't listen. They appeared dressed in shirts and trousers ready for a night in Weatherspoons. Odd.
Did the twilight sad play any new songs?
I can't wait, seeing them on Sunday!
Yep two new ones I think
They sounded really good, one had a great groove to it and the other was pretty fierce from what my hazy memory can remember.
Cardiff giggles
Saw em at the union of Friday, I thought it was bloody fabulous. Anyone have the setlist? Last time I saw em was in Bristol in 2004(?) on the happy Songs tour. I'm also pretty sure they ballsed up the beginning of one song, but hey.

Cheers
saw them in Bristol
and it is up there with one of my best gigs ever. First time i have seen them and loved it!!
trouble is they have so much good stuff there was always going to be a few missed off the set that i would have liked to have heard.
but was amazing!!
they played 2 rights
which was fine by me.
I particulalry enjoyed it when the Ruperts talking at the back got told to go for a long shit.....
They were excellent in Leeds last night
according to that fan-site mentioned above, this was the set-list;
White Noise
I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead
Death Rays
How To Be A Werewolf
Letters To The Metro
Cody
Christmas Steps
Friend Of The Night
Rano Pano
You're Lionel Richie
2 Rights Make 1 Wrong
Batcat
Encore:
Auto Rock
Hunted By A Freak
Mexican Grand Prix
Crowd was really good, no noticeable chatting in the quiet bits, sound was excellent and The Twilight Sad played a couple of songs I didn't recognise which sounded really good.
I think that's my favourite setlist out of the tour
Apparently Dublin was terrible, which is hard to believe! I couldn't go but I was told the setlist was muck.
Setlist.fm says:

Doesn't look too bad to me. That Leeds one seems to have most of my favourites in it though.
Leeds was good, part of me wanted to hear some of the young team stuff..
but to be fair I've heard that quite a few times before! Was a bit disappointed by no San Pedro! But then again- Christmas Steps and Cody, neither of which I'd heard for ages!
New stuff sounded good, Lionel Richie got a new dimension. And it was the first time I heard Batcat live... wow!
Yeah, no San Pedro is a bit weird, plus no Young Team
Would love to have seen Cody though. Was disappointed by the lack of Batcat in Belfast too, though Glasgow Mega-snake was an adequate replacement.
Does anyone want some tickets for Manchester this saturday?
Bought them before they announced Scottish dates, so need rid of them. Saw them in Aberdeen, they were dead dead good.
I'll sell them for dead cheap. Like £12.50 or something which is about half price.
Em PM me offers guys?
just back from edin
pretty sensational, can't remember the full set but we got xmas steps, fear satan, 2 rights, i know you are but... closed on mexican grand prix.
and travel is dangerous!
which was nice to hear
The best I have seen Mogwai play in a long time!
Felt sorry as there was some sound problems with Barry Burns walking off as the guitar amp completely cut out during Batcat. The only gripe I have was that during X-mas steps the Violinist who was playing along with the band during the end of the song which was pin-drop quiet. Some fucking tool working at the bar thought that it would be a great time to empty the bin with the sound of glass crashing all over ruining an great performance.
Twilight Sad were great support as well….. new songs sound quite good!
That's a shame about xmas steps
the violin sound/playing was absolutely superb at the Leeds show.
damn, I'd love to see that live, one of the best tracsk off Mr Beast..
I saw them in Edin too...
And was pretty disappointed by the sound if I'm honest, especially during Rano Pano - there was so much bass I couldn't hear the guitars!! I could barely hear the guitarist on the left (John? opposite side of the stage from Stuart) through the rest of the gig as well.
Werewolf was absoutly amazing though, as was 2 Rights, I loved the ending to that track.
Anyone else notice, though, that apart from Fear Satan, the visuals were only for the tracks off the new album?
That said, it was the best I've seen them play in years (certainly much better than last time at the Corn Exchage), but let's not mess around, the Picture House is a pretty shit venue, no?
I've left buying tickets really late AGAIN
and now there's only circle unreserved left for Brixton on Friday, as opposed to standing. I was annoyed at first but after thinking, for a post-rock concert, it might be better seating, i'm not sure. Any thoughts? Will I be massively missing out?
Just saw them in Edinburgh t'other night
I really would have preferred seating, to be honest, but Picture House doesn't have any.
Erm, yes it does!
Upstairs in the balcony section.
Sitting at a mogwai show
is good.
Last time I saw them the highlight was jumping into a massive drunk shirtless sweaty hairy scotsman as 'Like Herod' dropped
So maybe, if that's your bag.
Earplugs?
Haven't seen Mogwai before and pretty excited about it. Quick question though, have any of you felt the need to wear earplugs for a gig?
I wear earplugs quite a bit, but that's because my hearing is fucked
If you don't have any hearing problems then don't bother, wait until you do have some hearing damage. Probably a bit late by then though.
For sure
If you get some though, don't get ones that block out too much sound, as you'll miss detail in the quieter parts.
cardiff show
was immense. glorious. majestic. but properly deafening. the loudest i've heard a band play for quite a while. was a part musical part physical experience and it was AWESOME.
Like Herod
When that kicked in towards the end, boy, it was like being hit by a massive force of sound.
I'm so excited about seeing these guys again at Primavera
I don't know why I stopped liking them for a few years really? Did the same with SFA and am now realising how much great stuff I've missed out on. The new album is great and the Hawk is howling tour was splendid too.
Bodes well indeed!
seems as thought the sage must've had some tickets returned,
as I've just managed to get one on the first floor after it being sold out for ages, well excited now!
Gateshead-The Sage
is where I shall be watching Mogwai tomorrow night. Itll be the 6th time ive seen them now, ten years since I last saw them. Standing, not sitting, plus first visit to Sage. Good times
Just back from the manchester show
very very impressive. nice and loud, and a good long set (15 mins past the curfew)
looked to be having a lot of fun and the sound was spot on - mexican grand prix especially sounded awesome
Awesome at The Sage last night
fairly chilled out setlist as if they were paying respect to the venue's classical auditorium vibe...

was cocked up twice in Birmingham so they gave up on it and played Batcat instead. Did that happen anywhere else?
not in Manchester
they played well, but IMO it was too quiet
