Seriously is no one buying CD's anymore?
Because I just won Liar-Sisterworld (deluxe edition) for 99 cents on ebay and no one else even bid on it. I also won Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti for $2.99 which I also thought was a popular item. I've noticed this more and more. I've tried to sell such things on ebay lately where i'm practically giving away the CD for like 20 cents and i don't even get a watcher. To me there is still no replacement to having a physical product in your hand and I hope us sensible folks that actually like collecting music so it's not disposable are still in abundance.
CDs are just junk I'm afraid
If you want something tactile vinyl is much more satisfying, but most people burn the disk onto their computers and are left with a stupid pointless plastic box cluttering up their flats
I'm holding in my hand the Orange Jujce box set
sorry but as a music fan this is orgasm. Can't get this through your shitty download. Nor will I get a tingle up my leg shuffling through files to get to what was on disc 4.
you're not a music collector
you're a music fan.
you say product hoarder, i say music collector. music fan and music collector are two different things. they're normally intimately linked, sure, but they're not the same thing (as exemplified in the case of a few real oddballs who accumulate an unlistened-to collection).
i love music. AND i love collecting it. for me, the IRL collecting, the hunting, the sifting and the browsing is all part of the enjoyment.
you can't collect mp3's. you can archive 'em, amass 'em, curate 'em, file 'em and store 'em. but you can't /collect/ 'em.
a hard drive of mp3s or a premium spotify account isn't a physical embodiment of anything. which is completely fine if you're not fussed about any of the collecting aspects of music. but for me, my music collection is the physical embodiment of my time spent enjoying music. hoarding to you, perhaps, but to me, it's an entirely valid hobby.
as opposed to a stupid pointless cardboard box.
I do
cos I've had like 3 laptops blaze out on me in the past and its just easier to keep albums on CD instead of backing everything up. I back up mp3s I get but it would just be too much if I had to do it with all my albums too. Plus CDs are easier to play on my stereo. Oh and artwork or something...
I just won Liars-Sisterworld (deluxe edition) for 99 cents on ebay and no one else even bid on it. I also won Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti for $2.99
so what are you complaining about exactly?
and yes I still buy a lot of CDs.
Hi, I still buy cds.
They r wel cheep innit
I just don't buy my CDs on ebay
because I am not sub-human scum.
*Safety wink or whatever*
Even funnier
is some moron just paid to download Sisterworld for $9.99 off of i-tunes. He could have got a physical copy for 99 cents, burned it to his computer so he got better sound quality then dropped it back on Ebay to actually make a profit. I can't believe anyone pays to download music. But who am I kidding same person probably just downloaded it illegaly, bitched about how overrated it is on some music board (when really it was bad sound quality and no emotional investment) and then moved on to the next download.
Wait,
you're against people downloading illegally, but in favour of them selling on physical copies whilst retaining digital 'backups'. Um, ok, you're an idiot.
But no, I don't understand people paying the prices they do for downloads either.
uh no
I'm saying that makes more sense then paying to download. I am against people who never pay for music but download everything for free. Buying a CD off someone who doesn't want it is not illegal. Especially since many of the sellers are independent record stores who have a used section. Who doesn't want to support an independent record store?
Selling on an unwanted CD isn't illegal, but keeping a copy of something you no longer own is.
I mean, sure, impossible to prove, but still. Especially since you seem to be taking a moral line on this.
And I, for one, don't give a flying squirrel about independent record stores so long as I can buy the music I want somewhere.
This thread's been done about 47,088,658,405 times before though, so I wouldn't bother giving yourself a hernia.
I know
but this isn't a typical CD's vs downloading thread it's about how unbelievably cheap buying CD's has become.
I used to
but then it occured to me I could spend the money on a nice bottle of scotch instead.
the thing is, I'm pretty sure that a majority (or close to) of people who buy music do still buy music on CD
it's just that they don't tend to be the sort of people who post on DiS.
i'm not really complaining, though. i like CDs, i play them at home, mp3 them to go on my ipod. they're a convenient format. and lol @ the "vinyl is more satisfying" coming up again. it isn't, it's just bigger.
Pretty much this.
Normal people buy about 4 albums per year, probably in Tescos.
It's just freaks like us who amass hundreds of the bastards. I need to buy some form of ultra mega external hard drive stereo effort. I can't see myself buying my own property for 3 years or so and just don't have the room anymore.
I still buy approx 100 cd's a year
Cd's are now so cheap I don't understand why anyone would pay, say £7.99, to download an album legally when you can order it on cd for about a fiver.
There is no substitute for having the product and artwork in your hand, whether it be cd or vinyl.
Resident Records always has people in it
and people are in there for up to an hour at a time *me* looking for spontaneous purchases :D So I'd say here at least the are CD buyers
I still love CDs
Although I've found I'm a lot more selective these days. I used to take risks, buy stuff blind, that sort of thing. But in this day and age, that really just isn't necessary anymore.
Yeah
I buy most things on CD, with a bit of vinyl too. CDs aren't as expensive as they used to be which is brilliant. I've never bought a download, or downloaded illegally, and doubt I ever will. I want a product for my money - something I can keep, look at, enjoy over time.
OBVIOUS POST IS OBVIOUS
is nobody buying CD's what anymore?
It's amazing how often Bumsnogger are discussed on this forum.
Just noticed that typing the word 'cunt' in the artist tag box causes 'Mika' to appear.
superb.
is a cd one of them flat plastic things you can carry mp3's on ?
