Fucking classic. Agreed?
Going to agree. So was their first one.
Although I prefer Tournament of Hearts.
But yeah, Tournament is great too. I love the "YOU'RE AWAKE" part in 'Hotline Operator'
I actually haven't listened to them for ages. That's tomorrow morning's walk to work sorted.
What an incredibly underrated band. I thought they'd broken up, but looking online it appears they're still going. Here's hoping for a new album at some point.
but TODAY i realised i didn't have shine a light on my ipod ARGH.
anyway, i agree with everyone ever in this thread
Am I missing out on the two best ones then?
Shine a Light is the more abrasive of the two (fitting the way they were sold to me as 'Fugazi meets Springsteen'), but Tournament of Hearts mellows a bit, and its strength is in the slower songs.
I slightly prefer Shine a Light, but they're both brilliant.
Pretty much the best straight down the line rock band of the last decade imo. Shine A Light is my favourite too, but there's classics on each album. Gutted i never saw them live.
Also worth checking out Baby Eagle : (Steve's new band, currently touring with Julie Doiron)
and The Harbour coats (Bry Webb's other project...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdug7uN4zdA&feature=related vid by Colin Medley)
Too much distance to go from National Hum's noise to Goodbye Baby's hush. Can't really take it in as a whole album.
That said, the best songs on here would have made for potentially the best mini-album ever. Night-time/Anytime is insane
NIGHTTIME/ANYTIME IT'S ALRIGHT!
but this is an excellent album.
seriously underappreciated band
