Strange viewing, but much respect for the lady.
But seems to have been written out of gospel/blues history to a certain extent.
but I think perhaps she was one of the first to have the balls to try to pick one up and match the fellas.
And she did it because she loved it, not because she looked the part (because she certainly did not - so - more kudos points from me).
but I can't find the video that first sprang to mind cos I seem to have forgotten her name! Argh! For some reason I thought it was Bessie Smith, but I don't think she ever played guitar... Did she? The video I'm particularly thinking of is a typical pre-war-style b&w thing (actually, Mississippi John Hurt might be in it, too, or if he's not it's that kinda thing) and she plays her guitar upside down. And possibly sings about trains. Anyone?!
definition of one trick pony
You guys, there's a documentary on iPlayer: catch it quick.
Twas good. I meant to post it up here but forgot. Maybe my comment about her not being remembered is a load of bollocks. Not the first time.
Sadly many of those links no longer work :'(
or I'd've mentioned it...
Or, they'd been linked by someone who had; or by someone who'd been linked by someone who had; or (repeat).
Should watch. How long have I got?
Ok, 'til Monday. That's Sunday evening sorted then, or maybe post-pub tomorrow depending on when I get in. Score.
