I'll give it a listen after the footie
recognised a fair bit of it from their recent Lexington gig but it sounds a lot more mellow (in a good way) on record
Are there any Wire albums that are spectacular after 154?
sound decent, musically they've obviously mellowed, but lyrically there's still a bit of bite in there.
and a relatively recent addition to their canon, so they've not mellowed too much, if at all. Object 47 was a bit crap, looking forward to this though.
The last one.
with their best work. Personally, I don't that album but I suppose its worth a listen.
Let down by the last two songs which are a bit of a drag, but easily an improvement on Object 47. I reviewed it here:
I'll be seeing them at the Scala in Feb
is defo their best, "most complete" (gah!) album since A Bell Is A Cup Until It Is Struck (& what year was that, 1988??).
Post-154, you could do worse than listen to The Ideal Copy, It's Beginning To & Back Again, The First Letter & Send, they're all pretty solid. The Behind The Curtain compilation is excellent too, tons of unreleased songs/demos, etc from 1976-79, but quite difficult to track down nowadays I think?
