Title is a good start. So is kicking it off with 'Wrecking Bar'.
Anyone seen them live yet? Any cop?
Daydreamer and I'll Manage Somehow. So no harm done.
Is such a perfect song in my opinion and really looking forward to hearing the album when it does come out.
The Pigeon Detectives with a different accent.
Sounds like an even more boring Editors
Thats actually an insult to The Editors
although I can't really see myself every listening to it again on purpose.
sound like The Magic Band.
"Let me start from the top," Young says. "I bought The Legendary Sun Records Story, a Replacements record, Primal Scream's Sonic Flower Groove, Neutral Milk Hotel, Abba's Greatest Hits, Thee Headcoats…"
Hang on a minute. Rewind a bit. Abba?
"They're an incredible pop band, yeah," Young replies coolly.
"I don't feel guilty about liking anything. I just love good music. And while some people probably find Abba nauseating, I love the songwriting.
"Then I got The Cars, Elvis Costello, Scott IV, the Scott Walker record. I would say that's pretty diverse."
4REAL 4REAL 4REAL
for thinking Abba are somehow still beyond the pale? These days it's like calling him out for liking the Beatles.
Which mysteriously appeared one day with about six months worth of backdated posts, all featuring Richard Hell videos and REALLY FUCKING HIP SHIT, yeah? It was taken down pretty sharpish...
'Before forming The Vaccines, he went by the name Jay Jay Pistolet and was friends with Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons on the nu-folk scene.'
Just... ugh. Jay Jay Pistolet rings a bell actually, did anyone see him under this guise?
Frank Turner, Noah and the Whale, Slow Club, Johnny Flynn, all those. I think some of Marling's backing band played with him when Mumford was merely her drummer.
there was a lot of interesting music being made in that little clique, out to people like Jeremy Warmsley and Peggy Sue (& The Pirates). Maybe BBC Sound Of 2012 will include a 'real rock'n'roll band' fronted by Kid Harpoon.
Vaccines though...amazing imo
The interviewer would go and play the stereotype being like "lol, Abba?" as if pop's looked down on for cool trendy people like them, setting up the perfect opportunity for this guy to then look cool by liking all sorts of music and show that he's 'pretty diverse', even pop of all things ("an incredible pop band", so he can't be responsible for liking it because it's pop, a lesser genre) because, you know, he's in it for the music man. He's REAL.
nothing original at all but not too bad
How the hell are these guys getting hyped up? Just sounds like the same crap that has been around for the last god knows how many years. They sound like a worse (if it's at all possible) version of the Pigeon Detectives.
having some interesting stuff to say on his twitter about Brother, The Vaccines, today's NME and the whole 'pre-ordained all sewn-up world of indie' and what have you.
also someone seems to think this thread was started by 'the vaccines street team' when er.. it wasn't.
who once wrote a page and a half's glowing live review of Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong, yes?
"OH, THEY HAVE SYNTHS? AND WEAR MAKE UP? SIGN ME ON!"
"I'm on a fucking mission today, I tell you. I feel like Lenin travelling by Virgin Pendolino."
Like 2011 needed its own Northern Uproar.
But LC's tweet did make me chuckle:
""We want indie back in the charts" - The Vaccines. YOU KEEP YOUR FUCKING SHITE OUT OF MY FUCKING POP CHARTS, YOU HEAR ME!?!"
But that tweet just made Gareth sound like a twat
At least Oasis wanted to be The Beatles.
Do they get paid for that.
that includes internet mentions and conversations between middle-aged men that stay in for the hootenany..
'have you heard the vaccine yet?
'really good actually'
'no yeah, really great guitar sound. i think they're gonna be big this year'
'oh i'll have to look out for them'
'definitly. now suck my penis'
'Fiona Cowan, however, is nothing if not a pragmatist. When her two eldest boys Tom, 18, and Freddie, 17, launched their respective bands in her flat-cum-office in Fulham, she simply moved house - leaving them behind.'
''I've made Tom manage the flat on his own so he learns to understand the value of money. He collects the rent from the other members of his band, The Horrors, and buys all the food.''
'Formed in June 2010, the band consists of Justin Young (vocals, who previously worked under the name Jay Jay Pistolet, playing indie folk), Árni Hjörvar (bass), Freddie Cowan (guitar, younger brother of Tom from The Horrors) and Pete Robertson (drums).'
FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF FUCK OFF
He had some good songs. Haven't heard any Vaccines yet apart from the one linked to up there ^^^ which I'm fairly indifferent about.
On another note I find it amusing that nme.com's trying to push tickets to Notorious BIG's reopened murder investigation: http://tinyurl.com/6gckfut
They're no Twisted Wheel, thats for sure!
that's what i'm calling his music taste from now on...'the splatter'
any turgid grot-guitar pop by boring young white men in the stevie mac mould will now be known to have, 'something of the splatter about it'
the vaccines DEFINITLY have a touch of the splatter about them.
i might start calling 2011 the year of the splatter. it's a perfect word for this fucking dross
as the fucking Vaccines are
gash album title and no doubt gash album.
and I didn't like them at all, they seem really really affected
SHE WENT AWAY FOR THE HOLIDAYS
SAID SHE'S GOING TO L.A
BUT SHE NEVER GOT THERE
SHE NEVER GOT THERE
SHE NEVER GOT THERE, THEY SAY
is a fuck sight better than The Strokes' Angles that's for damn sure.
that it's not even funny.
i like it
starting feel that's a guilty pleasure, with all the critique its being getting on boards
I got more enjoyment from the yawn I released during my first listen then anything from the album it's self
So dull, 1dimensional and forgettable
look buddy, the people I have met on these here boards will probably account for me not being 1 Dimensional, dull or forgettable. As for those that haven't met? Sure you can think that, don't really care because I don't think what you see on this here page is a great representation of ones personality.... which you should be grateful of otherwise you'd be fucked for life.
It just has nothing going for it. Any song that builds an anthemic chorus out of chanting sounds like 'ra ra ra' is just going to remind me of 'Wig Wam Bam' by Sweet.
..."You're all just faking when you say you like the Pixies and Burial and stuff, aren't you? You're all just trying to look cool, right? Because there's no way you could like artists like that as well as such dull, derivative, hollow, turgid shit as this. There's just no way." That's what they make me think.
until I realised how much he sounds like the guy from White Lies on all the slow ones.
It kinda makes me think of the White Lies debut in a way, actually- first listen you actually feel quite enthused "wow, this is pretty catchy, maybe they're not totally shit after all" and then you realise they have nothing to say and all the songs are pretty cheesy and dirgey and you're like "nahhhhhhhh".
Solid 8/10 from me. I don't understand the hate this band get on here. Is it because of the attention they are receiving? Don't worry, it is okay to enjoy a band that more than 12 people in the world have heard of, nobody will laugh at you! (apart from the snobs that roam this wesbite of course). Lighten Up!
and definitely not because they're shit.
I like post break up sex, so I checked the album out based on that... I found the album to be predictable and samey and lacking the hooks.
I fucking hate the point being made here. We know, indeed Zapsta mentions The Pixies in an earlier post they are hardly small.
I still think they are awful and what's more I have a nagging suspicion you will too in around 6 months.
to be shit.
baffles me as to why. 'Norgaard' is like prime Elastica.
If they were northern and they dressed a bit more 2005, nobody would care. They are just The Pigeon Detectives and The View and The Rifles and The Paddingtons.
But they've had special classes on "what's really alt right now" to try and avoid the comparisons evidently.
The music's fine and I wouldn't rage if I heard it out at a club, but it kinda reminds me of when Embrace did that boringcore album in 2004 and it was a bit like "this is about 4 years late. Travis and Starsailol did it." but it was marketed to make them seem like they were part of the new group of decent bands. or something.
I don't recall any big "Embrace are part of a new group of decent bands" announcement at the time. They were dead in the water and then suddenly came back from the dead which was nice to see. Bit different to the whole 'brand new band!!' hype thing. Just saying...
...their massive display stands in Asda? Rock & fucken roll eh kids?
Unlike just about everyone on here, I care not a jot for innovation. I like it if I can get it, but I really just like things that are short, noisy and fun.
Wrecking Bar is ok, but the rest is nether noisy or fun. Kind of sounds like Editors, who are one of the least fun bands of all time.
Good name for a band though.
Editors are a great band and excellent live. So there, ha!
