A Wrens album was supposed to be out this year, wasn't it?
(Tom Vek apparently has something to do with Breton)
Although I personally don't care beyond a curious "this cant be good, right?" kind of way.
Work it out yourselves....
Hopefully it will be a better album than the last....not looking likely though.Excited for a Tom Vek album.
and a your twenties album would be nice too. AS LONG AS IT'S GOOD.
And maybe another DangerDoom album.
More of that would be nice.
get a move on mercer
The teenage boy in me is so excited!
Oh it's not even worth the effort.
OK, maybe not.
Well OK maybe not...
of course....and Glassjaw material not recorded via a sponge in an underwater shed.
pretty sure Icarus Line sort of self-released their record this year. I've heard it, tis ruddy good (and if my label was still active I would totally of put it out!)
serious? As in The Joe Cardamone versus Icarus line one?
Christ, how did I miss that??
shoulda googled. i have a copy of it. i think it maybe got shelved or still looking for a label. i know joe has been busy making the new Giant Drag album in his studio.
their album was really patchy as it was plus they where riding the back end of the big beat thing like a shafted donky.
Big beat my bollocks.
Get out your best pair of headphones, crank up the volume & give it another listen - it's sprawling masterpiece, that continues to surprise me 10 years later due to the density of its layers.
So yes, me and many others are excited about the prospect of new material from The Avalanches.
I was a big fan of it at the time, I even loved big beat lol. I just don't think it stands up now at all its worse than Discovery for aging badly. I'm a fan of Daft Punk too but that album just doesn't sound good now at all.
are still two of the best albums of the last decade. The latter is staggering in how it's constructed. Anything new by The Avalanches might be a let down but I still want to hear it.
i listen to plenty of music and whilst i am not a huge Avalanches fan, it is painfully obvious that they make some of the most intelligent music out there. that album was fabtastic.
the daftest thing you've ever uttered on this forum. Since I Left You is as great as Endtroducing (or Paul's Boutique), and will still be great in 2021 and beyond.
its in the same bracket as Mint Royal lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlDr4J5Q790
honestly, i'd say the trick is making the work sound organic and not like a 'sample cut & paste job'. DJ Shadow did it, & I think The Avalanches, to that extent at least, did it better. To me it sounds absolutely timeless as a result, and I find the suggestion that it's horribly dated rather absurd
Discovery is still one of my favourite albums ever. I put it on the other day and it still sounds perfect.
but I find it really anoying apart from Veridis Quo which I still think is quality. The b-side Aerodynamite is brilliant too. Homework is where its at for Daft Punk.
but my brain has always been rooted in pop so Discovery did it more for me.
And The Stills (which I think is nearly done)
He's not been away /that/ long, but he's surely due a new one?
And I second the Wrens.
Blur, my vitriol, glassjaw, aphex twin,
our coloured green
leak out now
It's still good news
shit production - absolutely terrible sounding recordings.
to start responding to these kind of things with "Portishead"?
Where's Cat Power? Chan was talking about an imminent new album in 2008 after Jukebox.
but I'm not holding my breath
you're not going to be around forever. Get on it.
I still think the Avalanches album is incredible. Hasn't aged a bit. More please.
Sure he had that dull covers album last year, but it's been ages since a proper studio album. Where on earth is that I/O album?
On a similar note I'd really enjoy Kate Bush doing something new too...
Anthrax's first new album since 2003 is finally due in 2011!
Likes Fever Ray but prefer The Knife.
