This new "Chinatown" tune is really good. It made me get Rubies, which is also really good. What do I do next?
Rubies and Trouble in Dreams with the "trilogy" tag. TiD is really good.
But I'd go for This Night, mostly because it has The Chosen Few. If you dig the folksy side, then Your Blues has It's Gonna Take an Airplane and An Actor's Revenge. Streethawk is the "glam" album. Pitchfork panned it, but they were totally wrong. It's great too.
Mostly just avoid the very early ones to start. They're very lo-fi...and Dan is one of those rare dudes whose been saving the best for last. He keeps getting better.
apparently pretty awesome, but no idea how to get it in the UK without paying some mental amount on money OR ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING TSK.
If a bit silly. But good. If you can get past lines like "her heart's made of wood / as apocalypses go that's pretty good / SHA LA LA WOULDN'T YOU SAY" then you're onto a winner.
and Dan's silly couplets always make me smile.
Re Mr. Lukowski/Bays of Pigs. It's the final track on Kaputt, and the B-side you really don't need. So you'll have it in a minute. Cheers.
it always feels very deliberate, not just because he couldn't think of anything better. I have to say, my song of the year is probably 'The Making of Grief Point' by loscil, which has this amazing spoken word contribution from Bejar that's just fucking sensational...
One of the best thing he's done in the last few years. Kaputt will only have a shorter version of it, I think, but you can download it from the Merge online store for $3.99. Worth paying for.
And added female vocals during the 'free and easy gentle gentle' part.
