its the best thing he's ever been involved with!
apart from last shadow puppets ;)
WHY OH WHY ARE PEOPLE IGNORING IT
And it'll my my top 1 gig of the year (at the Union Chapel). It does seem to be criminally underrated. I reckon it's one that the test of time will be very kind to and people will come back to in a few years.
I'm never gonna give it to you...
wouldn't be the first album i'd think of for best album of the year, but it's probably the one i've listened to most.
Probs the album I've listened to most, also
Even more, by a landslide, than that album by his chums that he does string arrangements for
Need to get the EP
On a related note: Is he ever going to re-release his old albums as Owen Pallett or what?
is people went nuts for the Final Fantasy album and this one is better. Owen Pallett sure seems like a perfect artist for critics to get nutty over so I'm not sure what happened here.
I'm really surprised at the lack of mentions it's getting on end of year lists - January Release Syndrome, I suppose.
The middle 4 tracks on the album (from Lewis Takes Action to Lewis Takes Off His Shirt) is a truly amazing run of songs. Actually, him playing LTOHS live might be my best live moment of the year, it was astonishing.
publications need to appear RELEVANT! This is soooo January
PS this album is far superior to Arcade Fire who are only ever good with Pallett in the band ;)
Owen Pallett >>>>>>>>>> Arcade Fire
isn't even in discussion.
when Owen Palletts isn't, due to the link it's the easiest connection to make. And it's true
can see the connection and why it is in discussion; was more just a figure of speech.
but his latest EP is even better.
I literally think he's taking traditional songwriting to new places. Just incredible. Incredible.
With the Great Elsewhere being the best track. Can't get enough of it.
The closing to the Great Elsewhere is just impossibly good (it's about Magellan apparently):
Followed him out to the end of the pier
"Don't come any closer," he cried, "I am afraid
Of the man I'll become if I lay my
Life down for a people that I don't even care for."
Face to his face, I put my
Hand into his and I tried to tell him, "No
I've seen his work upon the panes of cathedrals,
In the sweat of the workers and the flight of the seagulls."
My words were drowned out by the sound
Of the motors and rowers, the ship as it ran aground
And from the trees came a thousand soldiers.
I went down on my knees with a spear in my shoulder.
About face, about face, I swam back
To the Victoria. I shiver with the
Memory, memory of the island dwellers
And the indifferences of the Storyteller.
which is by in large his most accessible album. Ease yourself in with 'Has A Good Home' which is most similar to 'Heartlands' then go onto the brilliant 'He Poo's Clouds' which is by far the most difficult album but arguably his best.
yeh. get both of them, definitely. not much better pop music from this decade, IMO. they're a bit unhinged tho whereas this is more orchestrated (in both ways) and 'pulled-together'
