10 to go. What do you think will be in there and in which order?
possibly even in the Top 5 actually.
These New Puritans to do the double?
All to be in the top 10 if they haven't already appeared.
thought it'd be a definite top 10er judging my a lot of people's lists
And have Joanna Newsom, Forest Swords and Mount Kimbie be done yet?
1/ These New Puritans
3/ The National
5/ LCD Soundsystem
6/ Anais Mitchell
7/ Pulled Apart By Horses
8/ The Knife
9/ Titus Andronicus
Wavves, The Fall and Swans may also feature
hint: 7 of these aren't in the list
The National will be. As will LCD I'd wager. And you must have included Deftones right?
So PABH & TNP drop out?
Either way, it's been a great year when some of those don't sneak in.
The National, Deftones, TNP stay. Everything else.....wowwwwww
leaving, I'd guess: TNP, National, Deftones, Emeralds and LCD/Titus.
no..? I can't remember.
i counted the listed 13, rather than 10
Leaving The Fall and Swans off would be a disgrace.
i was stunned that The Fall and Swans didn't get hardly any votes from our staff. Swans got two votes but The Fall got zero, which is really odd! Both were contenders for the lower end of the list but it is kind of testament to how much great music came out this year that they didn't make the list. And possibly a reflection of the shift in tastes of our staff, as reflected in our editorial and the bulk of the discussion on the boards this year?
quite pleased about that
did you ever review The Radio Dept- Clinging to a Scheme? A serious contender for album of the year, but it always seems to be over-looked
will all make into the top 10, I imagine. No idea about the order.
most likely won't be in the top 10 then. Though, given the praise the album received, I shan't be betting against it appearing in the list twice.
these new puritans
although i'd love them to get in the top ten, it's probably more likely that titus don't chart at all. or maybe they do...i'm excited
i forget it even exists most of the time, but it's brilliant.
i'm gonna go listen now to make up.
It's people with a masters degree like you...
so it has to be top 10, there have definitely not been 75 better albums this year, there hasn't even been 1 in my opinion.
T'was my "staff"** pick No. 1. Erm, okay, he might. Ha!
**least-active staff writer.
it got one staff vote and that was you putting it at number 1. another few records that folks voted number 1s didn't get any other votes too and didn't make the list, sadly. can't have everything.
...it's a record that's really grown on me this year. Could go either way though. The National will be there for sure, but most of my other faves have been between 75 - 11.
i. Sleigh Bells - Treats (40, but blates should be #1 ffs).
ii. Liars - -Sisterworld(43).
iii. The Phantom Band - The Wants (26).
iV. Four Tet - There Is Love in You (47).
So I assume these will be forming some part of the top 10:
1. Trembling Bells - Abandoned Love
2. Charlotte Gainsbourg - Irm
3. Clinic - Bubblegum
4. Solex vs Cristina Martinez + Jon Spencer - Amsterdam Throwdown, Kingstreet Showdown
5. Teenage Fanclub - Shadows.
6. Steve Mason - Boys Outside
7. The Knife - Tomorrow in a Year
with LCD, MIA, and Take That obviously rounding things out.
It'll be The Fall and Take That.
surprisingly, not a single vote for MIA?! Nor Take That, less suprisingly.
Especially in light of her previous two stormers.
Haven't heard Take That's, so I couldn't say, but I've no desire to find out whether my assumptions are right.
that's my word.
(Judging by how many no. 1 votes it got, Diamond Eyes could take top spot).
A couple of roughies might be:
Pulled Apart by Horses
"Big" albums that haven't yet appeared include
What's that, 7? I'll have a punt on:
to round things out
not bad guesses but 5 of these didn't make it
but, deftones, LCD, Hot Chip, Deerhunter, Deftones, National, Sufjan, TNP, and Titus mereckons
I don't even know anymore. Kate Nash for surprise victory?
damn, why didn't i think of doing that?!
That said, how popular is she with the DiS staff? I know My Best Friend got a pretty strong review but, as you said, that's just one person's opinion etc.
Due to a technical issue/adverse weather conditions, our top 10 albums of the year will now be up tomorrow.
1. the Magic Theatre
2. the Kiara Elles
3. Annabeth McNamara
7. The Domino State
9. Her Name Is Calla
10. Die Die Die
Bang goes the Knighthood for shock #1
Can't believe how this was ignored this year.
its probably better than crap bands like Crystal Castles, uffie etc.
Hoping for Hot Chip but I feel alone in my love for that record
i was very tempted to make Uffie the album of the year, but only got 3 staff votes, and not much love on the boards, so couldn't get away with it *evil grin*
Really surprised there was no love for The Fall, Swans, Owen Pallett or Grinderman. I really don't what is so good about the Yeasayer album, I must be missing something.
on Yeasayer album is really really not a good record
it drops off towards the end but still
i'm really not a fan of yeasayer, shearwater or perfume genius. or deftones.....and i haven't heard that knife record...
but national, sufjan, emeralds and these new puritans would be in my top 10.
It's an amazing album.
..will you look at December of this year incase something did come out after you'd done this years list or does anything that comes ou in December get ignored completely?
December doesn't get ignored. We've usually had promos in a few weeks before but most relevant releases to our coverage don't come out after the start of November. Put it this way, most print magazines were compiling their lists at the end of October, so we're not THAT bad.
Labels know this is the case and any really exceptional independent records are usually saved for early the following year, as it is impossible to get releases racked at the front of store after the first week of November, due to Christmas. Obviously there are always exceptions and I'd be curious what you're referring to.
It wasn't a dig or anything like that :). Just curious as to how it works.
