This is very self-indulgent, but whatevs.
A lot of hipster influences doth not a tune make. Cheers anyway.
including the drummer Carla - a lady.
That said, vocal-wise, the each member sounds very similar, hard to tell apart at points!
Anyhow they're one of my favourite current bands that seem to get overlooked a lot. Very atmospheric.
have you seen the kcrw sesh? it's a good un!
they don't really interview very well though, very awkward!
Interviews are overrated, I preferred it when bands were mysterious!
will check out the Basement one, cheers!
Reminded me a bit of the Man of Aran soundtrack.
adebisi shank (just happened upon them recently, bit of an obsession brewing!)
snowden (start with the free slow soft syrup e.p.)
Will check out the others too.
It's got that balls-out rawk fun of Fang Island, with more electronic-y bits thrown in. Which is good.
Snowden sound promising too, downloading the free EP at the moment.
it's cracking fun - doesn't sound like it at all but they're a power trio - guitar, bass and drums.
the bit at the end of 'Genki Shank' where they briefly sound like Daft Punk is fantastic!
Snowden's 'Anti Anti' is an icy though poppy post-punk influenced kinda beast and have kinda filled a whole that Interpol have left with their recent output. The e.p. is a stop-gap while they try and get funding for the next album. It's relatively mellow and, gulp, mature but it's got real depth I think. Anyway, ramble over.
The 2nd album is an absolute joy.
Very polished indie rock, like Rilo Kiley but without the personality. There's definitely a National influence too. I can imagine them doing quite well. Not sure it's my thing, but it's certainly not terrible.
got it on vinyl, cant stop listening to it.
It's a cracker.
So I'm listening to them a ton again now. This is probably my favorite song off their new record:
And if that doesn't do it for ya:
