A late entry, sure, but he's done more than enough here to be GOML's Prick of the Week™.
Well done, Kevin.
First of all, NEVER respond to reviews of your own group. You will always look like a twat. Secondly, it's a pretty petty response: "lower case o in of Montreal asshole!!!"; "stale. like bread?" - Come on dude, everyone knows the meaning of stale in this context. Thirdly, they gave Hissing Fauna an 8.7 and made it one of the albums of the year, so he can't complain that they haven't been laudatory towards him when they feel it's deserved (False Priest is no Hissing Fauna). Finally, I actually quite like False Priest, as do a number of the other reviews on the internet, so maybe focus on the positive there Kev?
that he didn't know about the review til his friends mentioned it. yep, becuase you obviously don't care, right? and has (o)f Montreal always been referred to as if it's a solo project?
He knew about the review before it was published, since he complained about it, but didn't read it until now as he knew he wouldn't like it.
Why he felt the need to read it at all and subsequently embarrass himself with the response is anyone's guess.
i didn't read that bit properly.
Quite a painful read, but I love this bit:
"i don’t see how it is a double entendre, unless you believe i actually think Solange resembles a sandbox"
as I like Kevin and you never come out of these things looking good... I really don't see what the point is... and it just reinforces this cult of P4K being the only review that matters (y'know, which to some extent it probably is, though given both of oM's last albums have had tepid reviews and charted quite respectably in the US, maybe he shouldn't worry)
He just comes across as an even worse dick than the reviewer.
that said, the review wasn't great. I didn't get a good feel for the sound of the album... it almost suggest that Skeletal Lamping was a retread of Hissing Fauna (which it wasn't).
Anyway, Barnes makes a prick out of himself. If musicians took every bad review to heart they'd be crippled messes. Of course you don't think your albums a pile of shit because you wouldn't have put it out otherwise, but others are still entitled to their opinion.
The Airborne Toxic Event, always best to just ignore though methinks
I like how he moaned repeatedly about the reviewer using an upper-case "O" in "Of Montreal" [sic], yet he consistently used a lower-case "i" when referring to himself. Classy.
Even the title of his blog (a fucking tumblr no less) makes me want to eradicate him from history. Think I might hate him more than John Barrowman now.
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13906-sigh-no-more/ hasn't affected the Mumfords' cred (in the broader sense) on either side of the Atlantic.
I don't a lot of Mumford fans are even aware P4K exists, they've kind of left the 'indie' sphere...
i'd say they are probably fairly damaging to a band like (o)f Montreal. although a bad review is hardly going to sink them.
