Tracks of 2010

SCROTUM [Edit] [Delete] 55 replies 18:55, 19 November '10

Last year it was evident that My Girls, 1901, Two Weeks, Stillness Is The Move, Sea Within A Sea, Zero, Listzomania, Daniel, Bad Romance, Hyph Mngo, Crystallised et al were the towering tracks that the indieverse would almost unanimously move for as some of the best.

But if the album lists are a bit trickier in 2010 to predict, trying to nail down the consensus about singles might prove a lot harder. Well, apart from Fuck You which damn near everyone is gonna plump for.

So what else are we looking at? Some I could think of were: Cold War/Tightrope, Dancing On My Own, Round And Round, O.N.E., Odessa, Shutterbugg, Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains), Eyesore, Bloodbuzz Ohio, On Melancholy Hill, Dance Yrself Clean and fucking loadsa Kanye tracks.

  • can't tell if this is sarcastic or not but I really liked this track

    • I had tickets to see them in October - I think

We sacked it off though. I kinda wish I didn't as I do really like that album.

    • My guess would be that

'Angela Surf City' will do well as far as tracks of 2010 are concerned. 'Rill Rill', too.

      Coja | 19 Nov '10, 20:19 | X
      • Beat me to Rill Rill ;)

    • M.I.A's 'It Takes A Muscle' is my favourite single.

One of Hot Chip's singles (they really should've released a third single and chosen Alley Cats imo). I should probably save myself for the end of year threads but I'll throw these out:

      Famine Affair - of Montreal.
      Proud Evolution - Liars.
      Revival - Deerhunter.
      Love Cry - Four Tet.
      Go Do - Jonsi.
      Stylo - Gorillaz.
We Used To Wait - Arcade Fire.
      Rill Rill - Sleigh Bells.

      Stereotypewriter | 19 Nov '10, 20:22 | X
      • Yeah, it's more of a personal favourite but I think it deserves acclaim despite being a cover.

It's a bright, colourful and upbeat song, perhaps a bit simple, but I think a lot of this years singles have been quite dreary. Admittedly the autotune/distortion in the chorus could be a dealbreaker for many.

      • Freddie Gibbs - National Anthem

both out/don't and i was thinking
        small black - photojournalist
        sleigh bells - infinity guitars

a ton more certainly. seemed like a great year for singles.

        • Synchronicity

Was just trying to narrow down my favourite tracks of the year — one per artist. Really tough to cut some artists back to just one track:

          Audience No. 2 —Autolux
Tip the can — The Cast of Cheers
Where I'm Going — Cut Copy
          Living In America — DOM
          USA Boys — HEALTH
          Drunk Girls — LCD Soundsystem
Bang Bang Bang — Mark Ronson
Girl I Love You — Massive Attack
This Time Around — The Radio Dept.
          Tell 'Em — Sleigh Bells
          Freak — The Smashing Pumpkins
          Undertow — Warpaint
          Sprawl II — Arcade Fire
          Maze — Actress
Chaos — New Young Pony Club

          *yawn* boring, etc.

        Younger Us - Japandroids
        Indoorsy - Baths
        General Patton - Big Boi

Definitely one of the other songs from Age of Adz as well as Impossible Soul
Maybe Vesuvius or I Want To Be Well

      • I think I know one of those 2009 ones

and just the Janelle Monae ones of this year. Of which Cold War would be an all-time classic if it had any kind of bassline, but which as it is is disappointingly shallow and (unfortuately, cos I like it) probably won't stand up to more than a few more listens.
