Any ideas? Idlewild or mogwai i reckon...
is what rock star penises will Cynthia be bringing:
CYNTHIA PLASTER CASTER - “Talking Dick and Tit":
Cynthia makes plaster casts of rock stars' penises. She’s been doing this since the Swinging 60's, when she was a shy young virgin, hot for British rock bands. Casting cock was the logical solution for Cynthia and her best friend to get into the hotel rooms of their Beloveds. Cynthia will be dong a spoken word performance on Saturday in Crazy Horse.
all the bands will be wanting to know what new casts she'll be making at event?
In Cardiff on the 9th and no gig scheduled for the 10th.
would love this, but a little unlikely...
especially to do a little 45 minute set. Is there much B&S-Arcade Fire crossover?
It's no more than a 2.5 hour drive.
Highly unlikely though obvs.
i hope it's someone mega exciting who is secret as they can't possibly be announced officially due to crowding issues or whatever. it'll probably be the drummer of B+S doing a solo set though, or something.
arcade fire would be ridiculous but a little OTT i would think
at least an acoustic show.
so they have form. Still, you would have expected them to have been invited separately on the bill.
have a massive falling out after they release The Boy With The Arab Strap? in which case I guess that explains why Mr Moffat and Malcolm Middleton aren't on the bill
as would I if they had used my band name on an album cover after asking for them to not to use it...
but these days? not sure.
An Arab strap is an actual thing.
i would hardly imagine they'd cause crowding issues.
Say, didn't Mogwai play a secret set for the first Bowlie?
that, given the Glasgow connection and the fact they've played together a few times before, that neither Lord Cut Glass or Emma Pollock are on the line up, coupled with ATP's influence in getting bands back together, i'm starting the rumour of a Delgados reunion.
Cynthia, Scrabble and secret bands....
if they expect there to be so much demand for whoever it is then why don't they put them on the pavilion?
Portishead and MBV, for instance...
but it's pretty selfish and sometimes you've gotta make sacrifices for your fans.
this kind of thing will produce huge queues in advance of the set time, drawing people away from other bands on around the same time...
is that due to volume restrictions downstairs, or just the slightly iffy acoustics of the space?
the sound travels a long way when bands play in there
and being able to hear The Stooges soundcheck at Groening.
i believe. we're letting people know up front that not everyone would be able to get in, and nobody will buy a ticket based on this band being on the line-up (as they dont know who it is!)
That it would be listed in the Programme?
it could be Idlewild doing 100 Broken Windows. They start that tour the Monday after Bowlie. And Roddy's other half is in Sons and Daughters. Roddy probably be there anyway on babysitting duties.
and jump around like i'm 14 again.
drumming for The Vaselines, so that's another member onsite. Idlewild would be amazing.
in September they didn't have Colin Newton on drums but did have the bass player from Idlewild playing...bass.
Either you've made an error, or they've added Colin and they now have TWO members of Idlewild in The Vaselines now. In which case they clearly have to be the secret band.
In terms of sound it's better than the pavillion.
Or another B&S-esque late 90s indiepop band...
will be there playing with The Amphetameanies.. good shout.
they're not big enough for Centre stage, they'd be amazing in Reds though.
Franz Ferdinand? They supported B&S on the Dear Catatastrophe Waitress tour.
d'ya see manda rin on buzzcocks last night?
Can't believe they never got her, numpties. I only caught the end of Buzzcocks last night, Terry Wogan last week was sooo funny.
Flaming Lips (but would probably be one of the rare bands that should play the pavilion)
Trying to set up Arcade Fire would be insane.
I’m still miffed that Ben Frost isn’t playing GY!BE, given that he’s playing with Tim Hecker in Bristol the night before.
but unfortunately he's playing in Europe every night of the GYBE ATP.
so i guess it was just something the bristol promoters (Qu Junktions) managed to get together for that festival thing.
and have recently announced an ATP gig...
would preclude them from appearing on the bill at an ATP weekend that they aren't curating..
I don't really know them to be honest, but they hardly seem like a 'you won't all fit in to Centre Stage' kind of draw.
they played bowlie 1, they play the centre stage at nbc, they have a tour on so may want to be secret to not harm ticket sales (think they were the unannounced til last minute special guests at the 2002 one for the same reason)
They're working on new album material at the moment and have a long-standing friendship with the band.
my Belle and Sebastian / Sebastien Tellier tribute act.
that was one of my teen records. definitely what i want to see after a load of beers
Out of the mentions so far:
I can't place Idlewild, they don't seem *that* popular to be honest, though with them touring immediately afterwards it does make some sense they'd keep it secret to avoid cannibalising their so-so ticket sales.
Probably it's the long-awaited ATP return of Snow Patrol.
it hasnt sold out so dont think it can be anyone massive as why would they keep it secret when it would boost sales, probably just an atp associated band that either dont want to tread on the toes of another atp event or tour
contractual association - another festival or a tour or something.
(maybe it's someone playing the NYE show? SONIC YOUTH)
with some of Belle and Sebastian in, probably them.
Been a long time since they've been together. But would be festive at least.
The safe moneys on Idlewild and that's just fine for me.
if it was Idlewild as they are on a hiatus and also Mogwai mentioned they havent been asked so...
Yummy Fur maybe? Some of the members are already playing there. Maybe Franz ferdinand?
Im pretty much putting all my hopes on Meshuggah performing!! Please!!
but there wouldn't really be any need to keep them secret so I doubt its them.
i still don't think there's enough money/incentive for a 'big' band (flaming lips, arcade fire et al).
so...mogwai? a reformed arab strap?
In shit news, Apples In Stereo have cancelled their tour.
that it might be SFA.
apparently B&S had wanted them for the weekend from the get-go but it didn't look like they'd do it for the reasons pmj1980's stated below. They're the only group that've really been chased ever since...
but I suspect Gruff is too busy with his solo stuff at the moment to be playing a one-off SFA show.
It definitely won't be Arab Strap. Both Aiden and Malcolm have made it clear they have no interest in reforming.
I'd imagine it to be Mogwai. They like ATP, have done loads of stuff in the past for it. They're playing December/January, played the first Bowlie etc.
Could be The Yummy Fur. They last played together really early this year in Glasgow. Apart from that they don't play. They are however playing in Glasgow on a couple days after ATP.
How much of a kick in the face would that be to the folks who have bought tickets for the Godspeed weekend!
They're already doing a tour straight after ATP. It's not like their playing ATP exclusively or anything.
...who shall of course remain nameless: he has it on *very* good authority that it's Franz Ferdinand.
So there you go.
That's freed up an hour of my time on what was looking like a VERY busy festival...
bloody hope not
they're a bit too popular for me to really get into
just glad they are announcing it in the brochure before. If i waited in the venue and it turned out to be them, thereby missing a band...
if they do a don't look back style play of their first record...
it's Franz Ferdinand.
Who was the secret guest?
And how was Bowlie in general?
I heard Edwyn joined Teenage Fanclub and played Orange Juice songs?
