London Jazz Festival Thread

I feel that there should be one. Anyone gone to any of the events?

I saw a few free events over the weekend at Southbank. Some of the guys were mentally good. Soul Rebel Brass Band were loads of fun (I don't think I've ever heard a sousaphone sound that funky - almost made me want to take it up). Kit Downes sextet wasn't as good as I was hoping it was going to be (although I did like the instrumentation of the group), but I was really impressed with Sam Crowes group (especally the vibes player). I also saw the Lionel Lourke masterclass he gave and some of his playing is truely inspiring. Then I saw a group called Little Red Suicase that I didn't think a lot to (after watching some high calibur players it looked too much like some drunk drama students pissing around on stage with some songs they thought of during a stoner session, although I was quite moved by their version of What a Wonderful World)
Overall, I've been really impressed by many of the acts - especally Soul Rebels and Lionel Lourke

    • Thought it was great.

'Appear, Moves and Sails' was immense.

Loved the free punch too. Any gig could be improved with free punch.
