I loved that one when I was like 16.
Whats happened to that?
was that it was started by one of Forward, Russia, right? so why did FR release their second album on a different label? and not even 'really' a 'bigger' label - it was Cooking Vinyl, mostly known for Frank Black albums, Billy Bragg reissues and picking up bands like Idlewild once the major label machine had spat them out.
I think DTTR is still going, they put out the Grammatics album last year and I'm sure other things, but I think their Indie Cred was forever tainted by the Pigeon Detectives.
I remember hearing them on the compilation when I was 16 and thinking "uhm is this meant to be cool or good or something?" then I realised it wasnt.
Looking back on this now still provides me with an indie-ego boost
they had about four times the crowd Dino Jr got :'(
sometime between the 1st and 2nd Forward Russia albums.
hence why DTTR now release stuff like the Pigeon Detectives.
I remember seeing them at Escobar in Wakefield and thinking they were a decent pub band, then they got huge for no reason. It sickens me that out of all the bands I saw there, they were the most successful.
and the only people that gave a shit about them were their annoying girlfriends.
remember Whiskas didn't run DTTR by himself though
thanks, that had always puzzled me a little. is it just owned by co-operative these days then?
which had (then) new songs from iliketrains and Three Trapped Tigers on it. Well worth a listen for those alone, but also had some other nice things on it.
