Ive been meaning to get into him for a while, can anyone recommend where to start?
They sit on the Metro
Any of the tracks on there are worth a listen.
After that, they then stated doing the more glam stuff like Prince Charming and Stand and Deliver. Out of this era, I think that Antmusic is the best track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6UCGKmbDvs), and it was responsible for this, rather oddly: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2008/feb/07/kiddypop
turned me right off 'em. Stand and Deliver was cool, though. But Goody Too Shoes really sucked...meh
And the first solo lp is great.
Start at the beginning with 'Dirk wears white sox' i'd say.
As an 11 year old watching them perform 'Dog Eat Dog' live on Top of the Pops I was blown away with the twin, tribal drumming and (at the time for me) bizzare image. Anyway I'm waffling... start with DWWS followed by the other two.
but I also remember being blown away aged 12 when I first saw Dog Eat Dog and Antmusic on Top of the Pops! And strolling round school with a stripe over your nose!
I had a jacket with their logo patches all over it within a few months (I was 12 remember!), it was quite embarrassing when my mum asked me what 'sex people' were when stitching one on and was I one?! Cringe!! Hmm, I think I've said too much!
Well I didn't have the stripe or the jacket but had a similar conversation with my mum in respect of 'sex people'.
Dunno, try the above mentioned 'Dirk Wears White Sox' if you haven't already. If it doesn't do it for you move on I guess. Ditto Roxy Music, funnily enough I listened to 'For Your Pleasure' on the way in this morning, try that.
Accept it and move on. But before you do, listen to All I Want Is You off of Country Life.
It's a classic. I'd put it in my top ten albums ever. Make sure you get the release with the original version of Cartrouble (parts 1&2), though, rather than the rerecorded single version. Much better.
Kings Of The Wild Frontier is a bit patchy but has its moments. Prince Charming also has a couple of great tracks (the title track, Picasso...) but includes Ant Rap, which was a bit of a crime against music.
"I really want to like both bands"
a couple of quotes from this thread that came across in a slightly strange way when i read them. - i.e. in an 'i /should/ like this' way. kinda makes music discovery sound like some kind of bullet pointed to-do list.
I've liked what i heard in the past so ive been meaning to investigate further, if thats alright...
are my favourite. Or get Antbox as that seems to pick up most of right tracks but does include a rather "interesting" take on YMCA.
Which is basically all Adam & The Ants members with Annabella Lwin replacing Adam.
And he said "Stuart. Stuart Goddard, nice to meet you."
"Are you sure?" I replied.
"Yes, I'm adamant".
