Seven years ago today that he died. Can't believe it's been that long already, and don't why this day still makes me feel so sad, tis just another day afterall, hmmm.
Anyway - favourite song? Favourite album?

Elliott Smith
Either/Or
Rose Parade. maybe.
oh Elliott :'(
Hero. Rest in Peace.
Everything Means Nothing to Me.
RIP.
Alameda, Pitseleh, Between the Bars, Son of Sam.
All of them basically.
RIP
My most played is The Biggest Lie but favorite probably Waltz #2
Love Either/Or the most
RIP
Twilight - such a sad song.
I Didn't Understand
That song fucks me up every time.
I should add...
RIP Elliott.
I still don't have Roman Candle or Either/Or, they are top of my wants list though.
christian brothers
<3
RIP Elliott.
Either/Or is my favourite album
It reminds me of my first year of university, which was a pretty special time. Favourite song is probably Punch & Judy or Speed Trials.
gosh was it seven years ago?
:'( RIP Elliott.
So difficult to pick a favourite - so many. I would love to get a choir together to do a cover of I Didn't Understand.
Just because I was listening to the CD last night
It has to be Miss Misery on New Moon, what a songwriter he was, I've got all his albums and would struggle to find as song I didn't like. Great to see he is still very well remembered, hopefully it always will be.
Still makes me sad. And I'm a heartless bastard of some repute.

This is great.
RIP Elliott
Favourite song: The Biggest Lie or Twilight
Album: Elliott Smith or Either/Or

Say Yes still cheers me up loads
or Tomorrow, Tomorrow. I refuse to let his passing have any negative impact on how much i love his music. I'm also worried about a hachet job by the NME next week, probably one short article about his life, a long drawn out rehash of his various problems and death and talking heads from irrelevant people who claim to like him.
Southern Belle
Nearly every single song he ever wrote is incredible
R.I.P. Elliott
(does anyone know if there have been any newly leaked tracks this year?)
I just discovered this live show on youtube recently, amazing

my iCal just made my heart sink

James Skinner paints Elliott's catalogue perfectly in this review of the Introduction that we just set live
http://drownedinsound.com/releases/15740/reviews/4141299
I used to watch this video over and over
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ADiSSNWU90
Favourite song is probably Miss Misery. RIP Elliott.
so here's the 14 tracks from the introduction to... CD:
1."Ballad of Big Nothing"
2."Waltz #2 (XO)"
3."Pictures of Me"
4."The Biggest Lie"
5."Alameda"
6."Between the Bars"
7."Needle in the Hay"
8."Last Call"
9."Angeles"
10."Twilight"
11."Pretty (Ugly Before)"
12."Angel in the Snow"
13."Miss Misery" (early version)
14."Happiness" (single version)
I mean, you could pretty much pick 14 tracks at random from his entire back-catalogue and still get a 10/10 rating.
suppose that
if you know his work then you obviously don't need an introduction and would vehemently argue with whatever ten to fourteen songs are picked, even at random! That's just the sign of such a strong set of work - not perfect by any means but the majority rules...
R.I.P. Elliott
Among my favourites are A distorted reality....(the single version), Needle in the Hay and Alameda, but you really can't do no wrong with picking any of his songs
Either/Or is one of the few albums I still play through from start to finish
How one man could have so much talent amazes me, and that he died before his time saddens me in equal measure.
RIP Elliott.
I'm glad this thread got such a good response.
Been on a right downer all day but reading through this has helped lots.
I wrote a few words on my site, along with a few videos if anyone's interested;

Playlist
I made a playlist of 10 songs I REALLY love by him:
http://wp.me/pm8zG-bw
Not a fan of the tracklisting on the introduction so I decided to make my own for today.
RIP man. You're missed greatly.
either/or
Speed Trials or Needle in the Hay or Christian Brothers
ahh choices.
Favourite album probably "either/or", or the self titled- something about the low production of the latter makes it so much rawer and personal, even if they lyrics on it aren't the most touching to me personally.
Having said that "a fond farewell" is my most loved song. "Say yes" is just the go-to song when i'm down about someone i like, "2:45" when i'm in a generally bad mood- the list goes on.
Still probably the musician who's death has moved me the most.
Favourite song - Georgia, Georgia
Favourite album may actually be From a Basement on a Hill
i've never gotten round to
having a proper listen to him so i bought either/or today
Important moment in your life^^
Listening to From a Basement on the Hill
I know his later stuff isn't quite as popular, but fuck me this is still so good.
Not as popular....really?
I'm a huge fan and never knew he had an 'unpopular' phase? Everything he's done is fuckin brilliant and Basement is right up there with his best work, so challenging and epic.
apparently on the front cover of nme next week
:)
