Pretty monstrous, great intro, and strongly paced.
mine is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuUcHTF-t7o
cant fucking tell you how this song/band in general gets me going. you're walking down the street and you just go BANG - head smash at the start of a breakdown. it's like one of those electric abdominal muscle developers for me, chest gets built as fuck just from hearing this. maximum tightness.
pretty sure i've fractured some ribs thumping the ol' chest like a gorilla at around 1.25. if they played this shit during UFC matches every match would end in a fatality.
such generic metalcore in everyway. It's awful.
but I'd take 'generic metalcore' over 'typical DiS bullshitcore' any day.
but yea, generic metalcore, it just sounds like a load of hardcore bands who started cropping up around 2002ish onwards making that kind of music and all sounding the same. chug a chugga breakdown double bass 'brutality'.
Absolutely awesome, really want to see these guys live
The whole album rules, that last minute or so is devastating
Deftones - Rocket Skates possibly.
Also enjoying Bring Me The Horizon - It Never Ends
But musically they're very good, and sound pretty great live. The drummer in particular is an absolute beast.
The High On Fire one that you posted.
Matt Pike has got some scary blackened teeth
Vocals are what always hold me back from loving certain metal, but I love this guys for some reason.
And yah, dudes mug is nasty looking.
But I just really don't like screamed/growled vocals. It's often to my disadvantage - for example, I'm fairly sure Isis would be right up there with Russian Circles/Pelican/Red Sparowes for me if it weren't for their vocals.
On a similar theme, I'm also sure Pelican would be one of my favourite bands were it not for the fact that the drummer is just average. Imagine how much better "The Fire In Our Throats..." could be with a more competent man behind the kit (it's already brilliant). Annoying really.
with an absolutely abysmal drum-fill?
I agree with you though. Ruins the song.
MIght take some work tbh.
But mine is Russian Circles' Geneva - a massively heavy monster of a song. Dave Turncrantz is frightening.
It is rather amazing. They are an excellent band - can't wait to see what else they can come up with.
Harvey Fierstein told me you guys ruled
John Zorn called to tell me you're great
The caller ID was from a gay bar
You guys fucking suck
Any guy who likes you
Likes Neurosis and dicks up his ass
You think you're so fucking original
Gay bars used to be original too
You never get bad reviews
Because all the writers shoot up cum
Everyone who likes you
Is a gay homosexual faggot
Anal Cunt - Anyone Who Likes The Dillinger Escape Plan Is A Faggot
(also known as tuesday night.)
Anal Cunt's pleasant ditty to Eric Clapton: "Connor Calpton Committed Suicide Because You Suck"?
"Eric clapton sucks, eric clapton sucks, eric clapton's gay,and he's fucking gay.
Your father's the 4th worst songwriter,after springsteen,seger,and petty
You were sick of his gay fucking songs,so you jumped out a really high up window
You knew you'd get beaten up in school, because your dad's songs sucked so bad
You were sick of hearing "You look wonderful tonight",so you jumped out a really high up window
Sometimes i wish you didn't die because i hate that song "tears in heaven"
i was glad you died, until he wrote that song, and kevin sharp is gay"
Massive! I love how the guitars sound like a swarm of really pissed-off hornets on PCP
The Body-Even The Saints Knew Their Hour Of Failure And Loss
Quite enjoying it though
The last minute of that Nails track had me breaking pencils at my desk.
Thrashin' an' a-grindin' like it's the late 80s. Top choice Carruthers!
but The First Supper is definitely the heaviest thing I've heard this year (the noisy parts towards the end).
Still haven't got round to listening to the DSHS or This Is Hell yet, ffs.
But I really have strong feelings for this song.
Myopic Empire maybe.
Seriously i was obsessed with this song for at least 3 months, theres some great moments throughout, especially when it hits 3.39 its a feast for the ears.
Either way I salute you, the entire album is cracking
'Swollen and Halo'. Can't shake that song off ... and yes, it was 2009.
ecailles de lune 1 by alcest. i really enjoyed it outdoors at night, when it was warm this summer. the last 2 and half minutes especially
do like. epic!
really need that album.. how does it match up to Souvenirs d'un autre monde?
but has a lot more elements of black metal. souvenirs was consistently good, but the first three songs (especially the ecailles...parts 1+2) are better than the whole of souvenir. the rest of the album is nice, but a let down after the build up of the first three tracks which are stunning
but all in all you should definitely get it it!
Am gonna have to give this a listen!
Really like Alcest slightly heavier than on the previous album, notwithstanding that 'Tir Nan Og' was blisspop of the highest order
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRe0gQBUQ7Y More like classic metal even though from what i gather its new?! came across some excellent bands in South Yorkshire over the past couple of weeks...great stuff!
as i am relly enjoying the new album. it's quite formulaic, but there's just about enough of a smattering of grin worthy head nodding moments to keep me happy.
other than that i've not listened to much metal this year, i liked the DEP album and the Deftones one too, but i need to get my research on.
Odyssey by Zoroaster. Especially the stock riff which comes in with about 1:20 left! Ch-ch-ch-check it out.
The whole albums mint, spacey doom. Biff-tastic.
he's got a good voice/uses an average voice really well
Probably Goetia. That album is brutal.
Or perhaps Oh How Dark We Pray by High On Fire.
Gotta love a 20 minute epic album closer
Might be my favorite rock album of the year.
My year has been alarmingly light on metal though.
There's probably more alongside these that i really like, but i can't think atm.
The first two are heavily reminiscent of Teitenblood, but don't push it quite as deep and far as they do, still well awesome:
The way this one rolls off between the sections without missing a beat is disgustingly smooth:
Innumerable Forms - Contaminated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R-8aZijWIE
New ealand band that add a tiny little Eastern element to the occult muck:
Witchrist - Adoration of Black Messiah/Deathbitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyXnXIg5u74
Stuff that isn't horribly filthy:
Yorkshire one-man-band that sings in the local dialect about local things - in a crusty, BM kind of way. One of many genuinely home grown and culturally focussed UKBM bands around. I prefer On't Borough, but this is all youtube has, still has the uppercut thrust:
White Medal - Agbrigg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfKaneBe3K4
Velvelt Cacoon off-shoot that Josh already killed becasue he's doen all he can with it - which is to say, he's done more with two off hand albums than most bands ever manage. the 'luxury' black metal of Clair Cassis, influenced by perfume and graveyards:
Clair Cassis - Luxury Crypt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVd84DtRpog
This one has an actual pop promo video! Irish-post BM band, probably the most inventive black metal band around, along with Caina. Such and amazing video too:
A Forest of Stars - Raven's Eye View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOiuTSWDeIc
There's nothing to follow that.
you bitches of death!!!!!
Probably more whiney emo crap as far as most DiS metal fans are concerned, but it's heavy and involves screaming, so qualifies as far as I'm concerned. The song is great- angry, but really big-sounding.
On a similarly probably not really metal note, Rinoa's album is good.
such a brilliant album.... they all work together though, it's pretty hard to decide which song is best... maybe the last one, I Did Not Call Out. unfortunately I can't find any songs on youtube or anywhere else
instead here is a hilarious review by some people who really dislike it
ridiculous japanese speed metal, i nearly killed 50 odd people driving to work with their EP on
it's so fast and awesome and at least 50% of all their songs are guitar solo.
harmonies in metal are always winner
p.p.s. gonna have a read of the thread.
but yeah. nice album!
