In the City festival?
Been seeing this mentioned a lot recently round manchester, anyone know what its like? Line-up looks a bit odd, John Wiese really sticking out in there!

Sky Larkin
No Age
I'ts this showcase like festival
with lots of industry people meeting to discuss music industry stuff during the day and music in the evening. Haven't been last year, don't know if i'll go this year as I think it clashes with some introductory phd things. Nice enough acts on the line up though. Would be good if it is possible to get tickets for single shows instead of festival tickets, but I don't know if that's possible.
In the City was set up by Tony Wilson btw
ahhh what i thought really.
I'd only be interested in seeing mr weise but I think Ufomammut on the same night beats it for me.
Yes you can get tickets for individual shows
I'm going to No Age and Yuck I think.
hurrah, the No Age bill is the DiS night.
Announcing our line-ups on Monday.
Also, at the conference bit, I'm interviewing Ryan from Pitchfork.
Brew have got their own showcase at Gullivers
on Friday 15th:
Chickenhawk
These Monsters
Castrovalva
Mojo Fury
Shapes
Honour Before Glory
+ Kong Dj
Should be nice
we've got a show at the same time
thankfully not part of in the city - but if anyones around on Wednesday 13th October.
DOOMSDAY - featuring DOOM (formerly MF Doom), Hudson Mohawke, Dels and Jamie from the xx DJ'ing throughout at The Warehouse Project underneath Piccadilly Station - still some tickets left.
where
i wanna go to no age and pabh
whoops
that was in reply to Scout, as in "where can you get tickets for individual shows". cheers
cheers for the input guys
you coming to trouble books on wednesday kik? trof nq at 8pm, could be the only time they're over in the uk! unmissable if i might say so.
er...
last year was amazing. frightened rabbit show for dis was brilliant. did you even go? do you consider DiS, which is booking two of the main stages this year, to be utter chimps?
and the people who work for it are massive music fans.
I went the last 3 years
the first 2 as a delegate and I have to say I've noticed a slow decline, I think largely as less music buz people are going and its becoming more about new media companies and also more about it being just a festival not a conference type affair. I wont be going this year.
Disclaimer: Not trying to shit on it, just an honest opinion.
have you two looked at the line-up this year?
they've addressed the issues of shifting from an "unsigned" music conference, into an urban music festival of new(ish) music. won't be seeing either of you at No Age or Sky Larkin gigs I've booked for DiS is 10 then? that's a shame.
what sean said
so so much. i skipped last year too but i'm going back this year because the bands they booked so far kick asssss. i don't really mind whether they let local promoters book shows or not, the world is bigger than manchester.
not too sure about that
we are just putting the finishing touches to the pull yourself together ITC show, should be announcing it soon. to be honest, having been a bit wary of the switch to be more like great escape initially, i think it works. ITC in the past has been a bit too disorganised, with local promoters putting together shows that weren't all that well thought out just to be involved (myself included - the last year i did it we ended up pulling the gig on the day as we'd not sorted it out properly). now it is run in a far better way, by people who really put a lot of work into making everything fit together.
i've found the ITC guys to be great to work with, both from doing a zine for them years ago to putting a gig on/DJing it this year. it has changed, but i don't think it is fair to say they don't know what they are doing. no age, sky larkin, kisses - all bands that i'd happily cut an arm off to promote.
Well I really enjoyed it the last two years
and although I am going to Doomsday at WHP on the Wed, I'm hoping to see some bands as well that night, and I'll be there the Thurs & Fri
I met loads of people last year, from the very moment I got my wristband, but most especially at the DiS event at the Deaf Institute
It's a good showcase, and a good opportunity to see bands without a massive crush
