"In a surprising testament to the reach of U.K. blog Drowned in Sound..." Yeah, lil' old DiS, eh?
not care about petty shit like genre names. and those are some baddddddd pun attempts.
they missed a lot of people. even fact magazine were slagging it off:
you couldn't make it up
I was surprised to see aquacrunk spring up again especially in an article that seemed serious, it was just a joke that went around a few years ago. Its brilliant DiS gave it a go with that write up, trying to expose new stuff but it fell right into the classic trap so many indie sites do of missing the point somewhere along the line in a really embarrassing way that both misleads the new listeners by giving goofy information and gets the fans backs up. Just a little slip up mind… dubstep week recently is a shining example of how it can be handled round these parts.
Aquacrunk-gate hasn’t been as dramatic as w*nky-gate last year though: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2009/mar/05/wonky-ketamine-dubstep-zomby / http://thequietus.com/articles/01269-zomby-blasts-reynolds-for-wonky-ketamine-link / loads of twitter, blog, forum talk at the time... No wonder half of LA is having a laugh at that article when so much of the press around this music is people missing the point and taking tossed away jokes to seriously.
what a whiny little bitch
I'll attempt to mediate
personally, i thought most of the coverage was brilliant and bang on. couple more bits to follow today
but generally speaking, the artists involved don't get to dictate to others how they're perceived/categorised.
