New album. yay! listening now. Already enjoying it much more than Frames. Ransoms is classic 'size.
my special edition with t shirt didnt arrive yesterday, i was so gutted, got everything crossed that it's waiting for me when i get home from work today, fuckin adore oceansize
They're a pretry reliable band really IMO as all EPs and albums have been great. The only frustrating thing with Frames (in my humble opinion) is that it didn't have the same bite as the previous too, good album though.
and never particularly gripped me. Could never listen to it all the way through without drifting off and listening to something else.
I like the artwork.
Will try and get it digested before going to see them in Leeds in a couple of weeks! It took me a good few listens to get into Frames whereas their previous two were pretty instant, but I love it now. really looking forward to hearing the new one, Hope & Minor didn't really gel with me so I hope it's better thasn that!
as I was saying, I've given it one listen and there were some very good moments but I really can't make any judgements yet, I think this will take another couple of spins before I can truly pass comment. But It's My Tail and Silent/Transparent were that two that really grabbed my attention.
First tracks a belter.
Despite being marginally patchier than their other albums, it's very good, and has the Oceansize poise between brutality and delicacy down to a fine art. The first two tracks are both stunning (and borrow not just the name but the melodic sensibility from a certain band I quite like). Would say that there is an unfortunate weak point, namely the last three minutes of the otherwise gorgeous and headspinning Oscar Acceptance Speech (yeah, an orchestral wind-down is all well and good but Savant did it way better and this doesn't appear to have much point except 'oh look! profound!' although I am not ruling out a Damascene conversion) and the subsequent Ransoms which is boring. Fortunately, the lovely A Penny's Weight prevents Ransoms from inflicting too much damage. Silent/Transparent builds to a fairly mighty climax which is then completely overshadowed by the outstanding It's My Tail, probably alongside that opening gambit the best song on the album and one of the band's finest creations. Pine is like Ransoms but better, although still not particularly interesting - the sort of song that will probably grow on me. SuperImposter is fucking awesome - it's got real avant-rock soul, if that doesn't sound too preposterous - a leaner take on Voorhees, if you will.
Now I'm back listening to Part Cardiac and wishing the whole album were a bit more like these first two tracks - with a few deeply honourable exceptions (Savant, Long Forgotten, Unravel, The Strand, Relapse, A Penny's Weight) I really do prefer this band when they're kicking ass.
agreed on the end of OAS though. Seems a but unnecessary. Pleasant though.
Can't wait to pick up a copy; fucking tragedy this band aren't more well-known.
everyone buy it.
distributors have cocked up and havent got any stock of the album
what a lot of cock, pre-ordered yonks ago and no idea when it will even be dispatched!
spotify here i come!
I was a little worried about this album. The songs just seemed to drift and there were no hooks at all.
Just listening now though and Cardiac sounds impressive so hopefully it is as good as the above review implies.
Heard a couple of tracks and they sounded quite 'angry'... I think I prefer the more epoic & atmospheric side of their stuff although I've just read the BBC review and it sounds as though this one has all bases covered?
decent mix though. Should be something for everyone.
Oscar Acceptance Speech, while good, sounds quite a lot like Mew. You won't be able to unhear that observation now. :D
Reckon I'll get this.
