Flying Lotus, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble: "Drips / Take Notice"
though not as good as when Four Tet did his jazzy collaboration.
He's going under Keiran Hebden but it was a really nice album.
Its mad to think it wasn't to long ago I was listening to Flying Lotus on Rinse FM b2b with Kode9 and it was a bit out there that he was doing strange stuff live with a laptop and now he's jammin' with a full on jazz ensemble and sounding shit hot on his MPC.
I'm hoping that he'll continue with this, I missed the ICA show but the dude could be playing with symphony orchestras soon.
It reminds me of Ornette Coleman's Skies of America or Chappaqua Suite in some ways - really syncopated music translated for classical players.
no one has been so smooth and funky with jams like that in so long, its strangly refreshing to hear it outside of just digging up the old stuff. Seeing it in a live vid like that and that vibe in his album right now in 2010 is like fresh air. well funky air...
it's really exciting when the drummer kicks in, the dude can play. I fucking love that beat, and it sounds so much nicer live and REAL.
I love those early 70s Alice Coltrane LPs like World Galaxy, this feels a bit like those but y'know NOT OLD.
stuff a while ago, 'suite for ma dukes', think it was called.
he must be like the present day's version of Gunther Schuller or something.
Sounds pretty great, doesn't quite get INTO the beat tho y'know but a small criticism for something so beautiful.
thanks for the link
lovely sound. reminds me a little bit of the stuff that ONJ are doing in france
And so this is a band playing samples back live, yeah?
What a brilliant idea.
And its a Flying Lotus (not all samples) track mixed with some Dilla.
