What do people think of it then?
if i had more than 2 thumbs, they'd all be up. cracking record.
maybe a touch too long. but constantly inventive, without being pretentious or pointless. occasionally hysterical. hugely enjoyable. 8/10.
Up there with 'hipster' as a meaningless term in music criticism
I allows thought people attached the word "twee" with bands like the Moldy Peaches and other icky-cant-play-guitar mush.
how you can have the gall to type that really.
Its a sprawling, intricate, beautiful, melody-rich joy.
then check back in...
I'll probably...you know, be a bit miffed and that.
not had a banner rolling for months....bliss!
then the site will be broken foreverrrr
probably the best and most innovative of the year so far <3 9/10
Nah seriously its a top record and really refreshing to hear aband with a sense of ambition being well promoted and liked.
Not sure how strong his voice is in this video
but it sounds great otherwise.
good single before the album though
but the singles were catchy and interesting but a bit too complicated and overdone. Seeing them live I thought they were very slick and competent yet ultimately trying to do a million things at once and therefore not very entertaining. Dunno about the album but I think maybe they're just not my thing. Trying a bit too hard perhaps
Must have been an off day for you.
All the sequencing, laptop-y bits etc. all worked seamlessly.
Track order seems a bit weird though, maybe cos I'm used to listening to all the singles seperately.
Would have replaced "two for nero" with "luddites and lambs" personally.
wears its influences on its sleeve but wears them with a good deal of personal verve
basically VERY solid throughout, no weak tracks - 'final form' and 'nasa is on your side' are personal faves but the more upbeat stuff is done really well too - in fact that whole run from 'leave the engine room' to 'nasa' is fucking excellent - and that's not to slight the opening and closing tracks either - these guys have a real hold of melody and narrative, even if the music is relentlessly grounded in an indie sonic aesthetic
...but, I do marginally prefer EE.
But otherwise mostly excellent, and the fun lyrics make up for it. Really ambitious, perhaps disjointed at times, but generally good dynamics, texture, rhythms.
I've known (not particularly well) the bassist for years, from when he played in other bands, and he's always written excellent basslines, so glad to see he's maintained his standard.
I can't believe this band isn't being hyped to fuck all over the place.
Though that's a good thing in my book.
that I have 3 of the tracks already. They are very good tracks though. Might dabble in it before I see them at Bestival.
Gorgeous cover though.
Or The Drums.
Mainly because both bands share names with very good bits in songs I love (Cowgirl / that Ting Tings one), and they'd probably not measure up to their forefathers.
Maybe I'll check them out tonight?
Actually... Nah, I'll probably listen to those Desert Sessions instead, won't I?
which is a shame being the first song and all. But it's alright I guess.
poor, since its such an obvious "English" sound.
They're trying so hard to impress they've over-complicated some of their songs.
Tin (The Manhole) might be the best example of what stripping down some of their melodies a little bit could achieve... saying that it's still a great album; looking forward to more stuff from these guys in the future.
are bloody mental, having read them on the sleeve. Can I take the fact that most people haven't commented on this as an indication that most people have just downloaded it, probably illegally?
it charted at no.17!
I think this band are pretty awful, for the record.
Disturbed have at least one good song.
I find its music I can appreciate for its innovativeness but I just couldnt listen to it on a regular basis, it just gets annoying
