I very much doubt I will hear a better album this year. Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
I've been massively out of pocket due to being shafted by my previous landlord so I can't buy any music. I also want to order it through his website so I can get the free live EP too and the album isn't on Spotify either.
Fucking sucks. AND I had to miss his show at the Union Chapel as well. Massive Kozelek woe all round...
I mean his nylon-string only show at the Union Chapel last year was alright... Admiral Fell Promises is a very old song. I've heard a couple of clips (Alesund and something else) and although it sounds consistent nothing has grabbed me so far.
A Koz album will always contain about 4 songs which "grab" me more than any other songwriters work (Lost Verses, Tonight in Bilbao, Harper Road and Moorestown off the last one) but I worry that this one won't have the same impact.
We'll see. Did you order it from the Caldo Verde website and get the free live CD?
I find it hypnotic.
Didn't get the free CD, no :(
its good, yes, but havent enjoyed it as much as the last two SKM albums, or most RHP stuff.
it's weaker then the other 2 and tiny cities
Actually I think it's the weakest thing he has released... its good but nothing special.
I appreciated the other albums, but they didn't always sit quite right. But here, the music's just hypnotic and immaculate.
Maybe this is a similar situation to me having 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons as my favourite ASMZ album. I'm wrong, but I think I'm right.
The opening track has to be up there with one of my favourite songs of all time.
I DO like it a lot. It sounds beautiful, but it really doesn't have any standout track or much in the way of variety at all. So it's just beauty-beauty-beauty-bit-more-beauty. I find it all just washes over me, like a Stars of the Lid LP or something. But I do think it's good.
I think I could be clearer ^
