Anybody off to this over the next three days? Really looking forward to tonight, being stupidly cheap as it is.
I know 1 band on the bill. But looking forward to making some discoveries.
they're flippin' great they are.
and it take a lot to make me go that South of the river.
does anyone know?
Feeling smug im on the right side of the river for a change. Will take my life in my hands and visit Elephant & Castle 'Spoons to begin with as well. Yes way.
I have a weekend ticket.
it does look really great
i mean, some of the bands were terrible and it felt a bit stacked towards friday evening, but i had a good time.
exhausted now though, and i didn't even do all of saturday/sunday.
I really enjoyed Time, Hype Williams and Former Bullies. There was some rubbish on, agreed, but it was easy to go outside and go to THE MEAT WAGON. BYOB (though probably wasn't official) was a massive win too, that Off License round the corner must have made a killing.
Really like the merchy room and the whole thing seemed like a lot of effort was put in huh.
That big picture someone had painted of everyone was ace too huh.
Friday: Munch Munch, Cold Pumas, Male Bonding
Saturday: The Haxan Cloak, Please, Fair Ohs, Islet
Sunday: Ultimate Thrush, Gentle Friendly, Veronica Falls
Heard/saw them soundchecking but had to disappear to a nearby scary pub for the football
Impressive selection of tattoos on display
how were they? I've always like them when caught them in Manchester.
which he twatted himself with until he bled from his knees, chest and back, then rolled around in them and headbutted them to a frenetic wonky hardcore backing. Pretty groovy tbh.
much needed change of pace as well
I liked Plug and Dam Mantle as well.
Worst bands of the weekend: Pheromoans (although, it has to be said, that they were less annoying than the last time I saw them, at Trash Kit's album launch) and that awful, awful band from Friday night. According to the website, they were called The Human Race. Urgh.
I can't remember their name, but they were on in the bigger room. had a girl shrieking horribly. maybe after School Tour?
No shrieking there. Slowcoaches?
It was deffo in the big room. Hmmm.
it wasn't no womb?
Although I saw them in the bigger room on Sunday, did they play Saturday as well?
At least up front. Blonde, on guitar
it was them!
i think i got confused because the drummer of one of the bands in the smaller room was wearing one of their t-shirts.
Best band of the weekend
Not only that but the frontman (who was quite tall) kept on getting in my way when I tried to watch the other, much better, bands.
as had such a good time on Friday. Maybe a bit of mistake as we were all lagging in quite spectacular fashion. Plus there was a lot of rubbish about as well. Well done to UTR folk though - a lot of effort had clearly gone in and it was a cracking little shindig they put together again.
but this was still really good. Props to UTR. Islet were incredible; best band I saw there. Male Bonding, Cold Pumas, Munch Munch, Dam Mantle and Gentle Friendly were all v good as well. Human Hair, Veronica Falls and Ultimate Thrush were enjoyable new discoveries – although I learned later that the girl fronting Ultimate Thrush wasn't their actual singer, and was just yelping and growling over the top where there should have been proper vocals. So I might have to see what their "proper" set sounds like sometime.
Pheromoans and The Human Race were both terrible. As were the toilets. And the fact the Meatwagon ran out of burgers before I had one. But yeah, long may it continue.
Which band are you in?
I guess I'll never know.
... as they're from New York. And this festival was 'a weekend festival celebrating the best and brightest of the UK's art and music underground'.
