Some of her points are well made, much as I love Nick Cave, though I have a feeling she would have hated the record regardless of how good it was.
Into something that approaches an unnerving level of misogyny - even if you don't consciously hold them yourself, it could well be unpleasant for someone else to hear you project those views.
I personally don't think Cave is a misogynist but I can see how someone might feel uncomfortable with some of his projected attitudes, in character as they are.
(I do love Nick Cave btw)
and an interview was throwing out the old "misogyny" tag due to the violence directed at women. She said something like "What next? An album called 'Rape Ballads'?"

i genuinely want to know as someone who's never read the wire but heard the legends - do they ever actually praise anything that's even vaguely affiliated with the mainstream?

And cover a lot of mightily obscure (but often great) stuff. Certainly the legends of pretension/inaccessibility are greatly exaggerated, but it does offer a fairly academic take on modern music - of all forms.
